I think tho the way they see car is its sold as seen... But I had seen the car tax disc and it was valid with the right reg as well... Am normally on the ball .. Thought I had everything sorted for when baby gets here but this has threw me right out ... £121 isn't a lot for a lot of people but it is too me lool ... Just really confused what to do

As Lee said, what harm is there in directing the query back to the previous owner. You have their address. Your cheque hasn't bounced. If anything, you've paid for the tax disc. Certainly no harm in trying is there?
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Pay it and just put it down to experience, Try not to let it bother you.

Pay the DVLA, and use the small claims court to try to get the money you are owed from the seller.

The tax wasn't paid for, so they cancelled it.
You are liable for taxing the car from the beginning of the month in which you bought the car, unless you SORNED it on the day of purchase (which you didn't).

If they are chasing you for tax for previous months you wont have to pay them, that is the responsibility of the seller.

What exactly are they asking for £121 for?
Is it 12 months/6 months tax from the 1st of the month in which you bought the car?
Is it the remainder of the tax that was "bought"?

If there is a complete calendar month before you bought the car, you shouldn't have to pay it,

e.g he bought tax on 15th July, so it runs from 1st July to 31 December, you buy the car on 3rd August, you don't need to pay for July because you weren't the keeper in July.

If you bought the car any time in July in my example, you have to pay for July.

Likely it isn't worth making a big fuss over a months tax, the effort and stress of sorting it out will be worth more than the money saved.

If you don't tax it they will come after you with a BIG FINE and can eventually send in the Bailiffs, although they tend to look for the car and clamp it first.

I bought it on the 5th ... And I got the slip he give me says his name and address but this could be wrong I am told.... It's not just a months tax he sold me that car on the basis of 6 months tax ... Which s the 121 pound.

I wouldn't be bothered if it was a months tax... But this is 6 months at 121 pound... I wouldn't even write a post on here about on months tax

The first thing to do is to take out a licence and then try to trace the seller.
Although the problem was not caused by you, you now have an unlicensed vehicle (the disc you have has been voided) and if you don't take out a licence, you become liable for the offence of not having a licence and/or the Late Licensing Penalty.
