Mcfisco mentioned a form you fill in coming back. I would be interested to know what this form is called or at least what details i will need to complete it. Thanks

    I've no idea
We just left him behind and went back on our own and he later told us about it.

We still call him Maureen though :)

Last time I travelled to France we had to show we had passports on us, rather than show than properly, but coming back, they where checked twice by both French and English Border control. They normally take a while checking them making ME feel dodgy.
    This was April.
I'm going again on a date of September so will see what happens than.

we went on the ferry to France end of June, and they checked our passports both ways.

we had originally booked for 5 of us to travel but only four actually went, this was queried on way out but not on way back ( guess they'd adjusted the booking) And both son and daughter had to lean forward so their faces could be seen in both UK and France. And DD was even asked to removed her sunglasses!!!!

I don't think you'll leave but I wish you best of luck in trying!!
  • when we came back from Dunkirk last month we had fun and games with our 2 teenage children . AS they have different surnames to me (re-married) the guy asked questions like are these your parents!!
I am now carrying my old passport as well which has my old name and the 2 children are listed on there as well just in case!!

I always get checked both ways whichever crossing I take!

I wouldn't risk it to be honest.

You could always ring the ferry company and enquire if she would still be able to travel and explain your situation. That must be better than just turning up and being refused?

After some digging around I found a phone number for UK border agency and DCPAF. I phoned both of them before leaving.

The person i spoke to at the UK border Agency was very helpful. I explained my situation and he said if I do make it across into france getting back won't be a problem. But should allow an extra 1 hr to my journey for checks.

Communication was a bit of a problem with the French immigration officer. He said 'no problem', but not sure if he understood me. :-)

Anyway, on my departure I was asked how many people. He could see i had passports ready to show him, but he didn't bother checking and waved me through. At check in window no one checked passports and I was just handed my boarding pass.

On arrival to calais, there was a 1.5 mile queue for passport checks. When i finally made it to the window I handed over my passports. All names where called out and passports scanned. But some how my daughter made it through without any problems. I can only assume he didn't see her in the back. I would guess the traffic pile up means they keep the checks to a minimum.

I think I was lucky and I have learnt my lesson. In future I will make sure I leave plenty of time for passport renewal. Just not worth the hassle and worry. I know I come across very laid back, but I was a little concerned :-)
