Best Dial UP Provider

Not for me, I hasten to add!
My aging parents hardly use the internet and are not willing to pay for broadband, despite me trying to convince them it is the way to go.
Can you give me some recommendations for an ISP who does a 'pay as you go' package (they live in East London/Essex border). They have had BT Yahoo before but were not happy with the service and had many problems with the service/connection.
Thanks

Most ISPs, I'd imagine, still do a pay as you go service - however, depending on how much your parents use the internet, unmetered might be more their thing
Martin's recommendations are here - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/dial-up-internet-isps - the cheapest is Zaggle at £5.99 a month for 60 hours usage per month. With pay as you go, you'd only get between 2 hours 30 minutes (per month) and 10 hours (per month) usage for the same cost - depending when they use the connection during the day.0 -
Hi, The cheapest for your parents could be GeoISP ( access No 02081149845).This is a geographic number so can be called in evenings and weekends for 4.5p per hour ( rates after 1 Aug reduction). Daytime is more expensive at 6p call set up and 3.25p per minute (after August again).
These are BT rates which can be beaten by some call providers like Primus and 18185.
So if your parents can limit themselves to evening and weekend surfing they can get 60 hrs for £2.76 per month payable via their BT phone bill.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi, The cheapest for your parents could be GeoISP ( access No 02081149845).
Dial it through 18185 and it cost 5p and ZERO p per min.
(1899 or 18185) 020 8114 9845GeoISP- Internet access via dial-up on a geographic number: 020 8114 9845
- Use any username and password to log in
- Calls billed at 0p/min by 18185, 1899
- Calls usually included in bundles offering free nationwide calls
- Calls usually part of inclusive minutes for mobile users - cheaper than GPRS!
- No catch, no subscription, no need even to register

i recently started using geoisp 020 8114 9845 via our BT line and it is being charged at 2p per minute in the evenings! Is that right?
I was using it when we were with Primus and it was included in the free evening and weekend calls.
Does it still work for only a 5p connection charge with 18185 ?Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

It does for geoisp. I just got my first bill at 5p a time for my internet usage. I hardly make any phone calls so I don't bother about that.0 -
I need internet access from my mum's house, but only for a couple of months or so. She is currently on Homecall (which I believe is Pipex). As I want it for a short time it's going to be dial-up. Can anyone confirm whether Mipcards work with Homecall (at one point on their site it says BT only whilst elsewhere it says any non-cable connections which I assume includes Homecall). Presumably I could use GeoISP too, (but 18185 and 1899 won't work with Homecall?)0
