Whats the longest you have left your cat alone?

  • I will leave him indoors he might not like it but at least he will be safe.

Yup - that's the important bit ..... he can go out as soon as you come back if he likes but it's much more important that he's in and safe when you're away

I used to leave Smudge from a Sat lunchtime to Sun night on occasion and he was absolutely fine :)

Mia and Archie managed OK for 2+ weeks last autumn (emergency admission to hospital) with someone popping in once a day to feed them & their litter trays were cleaned out every other day

Sure it wasn't ideal - especially for Archie (who normally goes out when I get up and comes in at dinner time or later!) BUT they were safe ....

I have also led our cats for 2 days over a weekend. Leaving early sat morn and returning late Sunday.

We had 3 cats at the time and as had cat flap didn't need to do litter trays. But I think in your case two litter trays or even one large one would be fine for two days.

My cats usually have dry food so not so bad with leaving it for a few days. Would recommend a timer food dish especially if you feed wet food.

Also agree with others about keeping your cat in, best idea safer then!

4 days for me in the past, this was 2 cats to entertain eachother and someone going in to feed/water etc. They were largely outside cats but I locked them in if away so I knew they were safe. I would personally never lock a cat out. If someone is popping in it'll all be fine and cat will cope with being in.

If you have someone going in to see to feeding etc, your house IS a big cattery, and one they know, so in my book cats are far happier with this.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Lilys been on her own for 48 hours many times before, longer and we'd get our friends to pop round and feed/water/scoop. She prefers to be on her own, not a very sociable cat so I'm sure she actually enjoys it!
    :heart2:
  • I would put out at least 2 if not 3 litter trays as mine will only use a tray once after that they go on the floor next to it. Could you ask one of your friends or neighbours to look in on it for you?

I left my cat for two weeks when i went on holiday, she had a waterproof outside bed and my dad fed her twice a day. She doesnt have a litter in the house anyway, she was a stray when i got her about 9 years ago, and generally prefers to be outside. She was fine.

I have left my cat for the weekend. We have an automatic feeder with cooling packs. I bought it from pets at home and the feeder keeps the wet food fresh and opens the different food segments at the times that you set it to. I also leave lots of dry food, lots of water and clean litter trays. I put his night time treats on the bed too. My neighbour has a key and pops in to check on him also.

I would never leave my cat outside, no way, I would be worried sick.
My cat loves the outdoors too but he also loves 'our' bed and all his other home comforts :).
  • I have left my 3 for a week, but my mum pops in everyday to clean tray and feed them, I wouldn't leave any cat outside for any length of time without being able to get in...what if the weather was really bad...I know it would find shelter but still.....better off inside with food and a tray.
Its all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:

I'd keep them in rather than out. When I was a kid we went away for a few days and had a neighbour come in to feed our cat. He was very shy and could get out so he avoided her and she only saw him from a distance but he ate the food so she thought all was well. When we got back he came limping up to us, he'd caught his elasticated collar on something, stretched it, stepped through it and got stuck, the collar was cutting in under his leg. He needed veterinary treatment for the injury but recovered. This taught me two things: use breakaway collars and keep your cats in if you're away and have someone coming in to feed them.
  • now Im gonna break the mould a bit here...we often go away for weekends during the summer months and we leave our cat outside. We leave her a box to sleep in under the cover of the carport, and I have a friend pop in once a day at the usual feeding time to feed and check on her.
However, she does spend 95% of her time outdoors anyway. She does not have a litter tray, never has done, she prefers to use the garden. She is often outside all night , she is a real big hunter and much prefers outside to inside. She is also quite cool with us and is not a softee lap cat type, more the aloof sort! It would be cruel to her to leave her locked inside for 2 days..she would hate it..after 10 mins indoors at ours she is waiting to go back out. So yes, I would leave her outside, and not worry too much about it. I do think though it really depends on the cat, and what sort of life they are used to.
