No HDMI outlet on laptop

    A panel TV can only ever show at its native resolution and has a built in scaler so that anything not at native will be rescaled and deinterlaced.

    Depending on the tv a £50 scaler may do a better job than the built in one but I doubt it would for any branded set.

    What ports are actually on the laptop. You said no HDMI but does it have VGA or DVI ports?

    I wouldn't bother with one of those USB adaptors, everyone I know who has had one complains about them, either limited resolution or display lag being the most common complaints.
