Hi
I purchased a new TOSHIBA laptop about 12 months ago which has no HDMI cable outlet. Could anyone advise if there is a converter I can purchase to enable one of the USB ports into HDMI or is it best to change to a newer laptop? Any help would be appreciated.

Could get one of these from Maplin.

Your laptops' only a year old so not really worth getting a new one just for an HDMI port...unless you really wanted a new one.0 -
Some friends of mine have just purchased a new TV with HDMI input, but there's no HDMI output on the SKY box.
Would this work for them?
There's a USB port of some description on the back of the box.
If that doesn't work (the box is over 12 months old so they are out of contract), can I get something that will?
They don't want the hassle of cancelling Sky and then rejoining (already asked them) so that's not an option.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

I am not sure if you need to leave and rejoin sky as all you need is an HD box which has the required HDMI port. Whether Sky will charge you more per month or even an installation fee is a question to discuss when ringing the Sky 'retentions' department.
As they are over 12 months into a contract they probably have a 30day cancellation period however Sky would almost certainly like to keep the 'contract' and retain the £? per month rather than lose out to Virgin Media or BT.
No video output will be seen on that USB port. There's a USB port of some description on the back of the box.0 -
The USB ports on Sky boxes are non functional.
All new Sky+HD boxes use HDMI, plenty for sale on Ebay. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Are there two questions running on the same thread here?0

That usb will be either for playback of files on pen drive or for sky egineer.
You can buy a scart to hdmi upscaler, never tried one myself. I know this one is £50, just posting for info. If you look around can get it cheaper.

That Maplin product suggested by Deru looks very interesting. If you are tempted then I would order it off the web and test it keeping the packing as neat as you can - if it doesn't work then send it back within 7(?) days for a full refund.0 -
Thank you Deru will try the Maplin converter. Prior to getting the laptop I had a large monitor and miss it when using Photoshop and want to try to utilise it again but need to connect via HDMI.0
