royal mail redirection - how long?

Sorry I couldn't seem to find the appropriate sub-forum for this subject so have stuck it in here, as I presume a lot of you are in the process of moving/have moved and have some experience of this!
We moved into this house December 2011 and set up a redirection which has been renewed several times. Our current redirection runs out early Sept and the post office sent me a letter about renewal. Now I know they are only supposed to allow redirection for up to 2 years, but when I rang to renew the woman on the phone offered me a 12 month redirection, so I just agreed and paid without saying anything.
The reason being it would suit me to be redirected for another year as to be honest I am not that organised with my paperwork and there may be some organisations I have still not informed of the change of address.
But does anyone know if I have got away with this, will I get the full year's extended redirection now? After all they have taken the money. Anyone else had this happen? Or work for the Royal Mail?

Have you changed your address details with the DVLA for your driving licence, car details ?
You are breaking the law if you have not!!!
Have you told your bank/credit cards ( FRAUD)
Get your act together and inform every company and your employer that you have moved0 -
My parents moved last year and informed the organisations they deal with an almost daily or weekly basis - bank/credit card companies, Radio Times first and when they got something redirected, they contacted whoever sent the post to update the address. Thus only contacting no more than 3 organisations a day. They bought a year's redirection and by month 6, they just got like 4 items of post redirected.
It proved valuable at Christmas as some of their family and friends forgot to update their address book and sent the card to their old address.0 -
I'm fairly sure there did used to be a 2 year maximum, however, the RM redirections web page makes no mention of it that I can see, and in the FAQs it simply says that on expiry you will be offered the opportunity to renew (as indeed the OP was).

Well I got the letter from Royal Mail today confirming my redirection for another year and the amount taken (£50).
But on the back of the letter in the small print, it is still talking about 'a maximum of 2 years'. I am confused, but think surely they can't take the money and not provide the service?
Unless they are counting the 2 years from whenever you extend the original redirection? In which case, it could go on for many years, but that would get silly.0 -
I think it's an error but since they have accepted payment and confirmed your 'order' then I suspect they will honour it/you'll get away with it.
I have just had a letter telling me my redirection has expired and they cannot offer an extension as the redirection has already been in place for 2 years and that's the limit. Which is fine cos I wasn't wanting to extend it anyway.Herman - MP for all!0
