It appears Aldi do some strange things with their prices on coffee.
Their specials make the price go up and standard prices are REALLY low!
Nescafe gold CAN'T be that price? Can It?

Alcafe Gold Freeze Dried Instant Coffee (200g)
Alcafe Gold Freeze Dried Instant Coffee
    (200g)
    £1.79 £2.69
    (£1.35/100g)

    PRICES TODAY AT
    Aldi £1.79 £2.69
    ASDA £2.98
    Tesco £2.98
    Sainsbury's £3.20
    Waitrose £3.68
    Ocado

I don't know about this (and says Alcafe rather than Nescafe?). Last time I noticed (quite a few months ago) Aldi's offer on a Nescafe Gold Blend was more expensive per g than offers elsewhere a few weeks earlier in the major stores (with 10% off that via A). I also saw Lidl promoting a 'half price' on a '% extra free' Nescafe (still worked out more than my £2/100g general guide - but prices do sometimes go down to £1.67/100g on them). Best thing to do is look at the price per 100g for whatever store you are shopping at, or comparing against as the case may be if it is a comparison shop.

I don't know about these "deep discounters" - I think that's more of a perception held by many people rather than the reality. (The perception of course is more important than the actualite - should be an accent over that final 'e' - can't work out how to do it.) I think they're deep discounters only on a few 'headline' products, which are probably loss leaders for them, on which they can go to significantly lower prices than the major stores. Although the 'special buys' for instance, I think Aldi manages to do low prices on those because of the way they manage to buy the products in. On everything else, the 'discounters' seem just as expensive or same price as the others, or sometimes more expensive (depending on what you are looking at). These stores (Aldi, Lidl etc.) can attach onto the 'discounter' perception though.

:rotfl::rotfl:You got last week's M offer item in the Kingsmill 50/50. Should have switched, this week, to the A's 800g White Farmhouse Loaf (65p M):rotfl:. However, I get the concept that you might not have wanted a 100% white loaf - therefore how about the A Sliced White or Sliced Wholemeal instead?

The Honeydew Melon (my highest price being £1 on those vs a £1 elsewhere, but with T's Eday one at 69p (not sure how big or not that is though) I've lowered my price somewhat) - you should have gone for the Half Honeydew Melon vs M's 45p on that (actually a quarter honeydew in M but last week certainly was comparing the Half honeydew to that - still, 45p (less 10%) is too expensive for me on even a half melon, given T's Eday full one (unless I'm informed - they don't stock it in the store I've used - that this melon is a tiny one).:D:):rotfl::rotfl:
Ouch!! I should have known that if my shop varied from the norm that "savage savvy" would be there to tear it to pieces.

My thinking was that I needed catfood and bread. Catfood went well and the sel for the bread was £1.35 which I was prepared to pay.

Extra large melon was £1.50 which I hoped would be n/a and it was. SP ketchup used to be 19p in A (when I got loads last year) and was now 26p . Can't believe it compared to 40p in Morries :eek::eek:

If Asda start comparing against Aldi things could get very exciting! :D

Are there any jam makers out there amongst the elite? Any recommendations for some festive jams? Because obviously it's time to start thinking about Christmas :rotfl:

Last year I made a spiced plum but I wondered if anyone else had any other suggestions.

Edit: and thanks VT. She has survived a bad fall before so sure she can again. I'm not going to get my hopes up too high but at least she's moving now. X-rays coming back tomorrow that should make things a bit clearer.

I dont make jams usually chutneys but a couple of years ago I made pickled pears and they were absolutely delish with cold meats.
Peel 6 pears, hard ones best, remove stalk and bit at bottom(do not cut pears or remove core keep whole)
place in saucepan and cover with vinegar say half wine vinegar and half malt or use all wine if you have a good stock of it and 75 gms of sugar.
Add whole spices-20 peppercorns cinnamon stick, 8 star anise, chilli flakes, whole alspice, cloves etc etc.
Basically any spices that you have or like add to the mix.
Simmer for 10 mins till pears are soft.
Pack pears in jars and fill to brim with vinegar mix including spices.
Leave to mature for at least six weeks.

I agree - I have never really found Aldi or Lidl much cheaper apart from offers and a few exceptions now and again.

I am interested to know what apples are 99p for 9 in Aldi that MSM has picked up as the cheapest I could see earlier were fun sized at £1.39 or was it £1.69 for 9?

As MSM now compare Aldi, if As use the results in the APG we will need a code for Aldi :). Unlikely though as there would be too many NAs?
