Just a microfibre cloth and that works.

Need to get a microfibre cloth

Yep, that works. Get one for glass. I dampen a bit of it, clean with that, then go over again with the dry bit of it - job done :p

I want to know where the dirt on the inside of the windscreen comes from/ what it is as our new car needs doing at least once every 3 weeks otherwise night driving becomes a problem. The old car was probably once a month to 6 weeks.
Sucked up from outside and blown through the vent at the window perhaps?

I live on a main road, the windows at the front of the house are always more dirty than those at the back.

The dirt is normal everyday dirt that sticks to the plasticisers that leach from the plastic dash and other formed components. This gives rise to the haze on the inside of the windscreen.

It's worse on a new car simply because there is a load of plasticiser that can evaporate and hot weather will quicken the formation.

I've tried Nilglass, lint free cotton, microfibre cloths, dedicated window wipes etc etc and I still see smears which annoy me. I think it's because I'm too fussy and wear contact lenses/glasses and I always clean them for an optically clear view.

Autogylm Window Polish. I've tried every "non smear" polish/spray going and it's the only one that works first time without using newspaper. The only downers are the price and chalky residue.
I use the AG Fast glass spray but still get smears unless I use newspaper. I've thought about using the polish but it looks like a bit of a faff. Any tips?

I use paper towels (liberated from work) to clean the windscreen. :money:

You don't need much of the blue liquid. Top tip: Put some polish onto the cloth/towel outside of the car. If you spill some onto the dash it's a pain to get off. Just spread it about and cover as much of the glass with whatever amount and it will eventually be asborbed by the cloth leaving a few streaks of excess polish. You should be able to hear the squeaky clean sound! Then use another towel or a microfibre cloth to polish off the polish.

You might get some polish onto the top of the door cards or on the window frames in which case just use a damp chamois to wipe it off.

I use brake cleaner & blue roll, although my grime is cigarette smoke rather than leaching plasticisers

Personally most the time simply kitchen roll works fine on ours. Occasionally spray it with glass cleaner but not normally necessary.

I think that it's mostly oily diesel exhaust residues [from lorries of course, not from cars].

Just seems odd that it gathers from the top of the windscreen and more so on the o/s. If it was coming through the vents I'd have thought it would gather lower on the screen where the windscreen demister first hits
