My baby is 6 weeks old now and my advice is to look on all different websites, when shops have sales and baby events have a look!!
I got - a Summer baby monitor for £30 from boots - toys r us are selling it for £109 ( dont no how i managed that one)
Got a medela breast pump for £25 from ebay usually £50 (had been used once but women couldnt bf)
Got MAM sterlising kit plus 6 bottles, brush and bottle holder for £35 reduced from around £55-- mothercare
Tomme tippee bottles from mothercare worked out at around £2 per bottle.
At the tesco baby event a few days ago i got 9 huggies wipes for £6.25 so stocked up on these, making them less than 70p per packet and there usually £1 each
Really not sure about furnitue, we used our bedroom furniture and painted it white so cost the paint and thats all. Our cout was £200 from Debenhams but i have seen much cheaper at other shops ( possibly not as good quality.
Will you be having a baby shower? we had a surprise one and were given a swing, bath, high chair, moses basket, loadsss of clothes, toiletries and a playmat. We were very surprised at the amoutn given and maybe your friends/ relatives would like to buy you some bits and bobs0 -
We're forever stockpiling the huggies 9 pack boxes of wipes whenever they come up on offer (2 kids under 18 months so lots of nappy changes and sticky fingers and we use a LOT) - they seem to do so about every other month anyway so we tend to buy a box a week then and it keeps us going.
They're a bit of the marmite of baby wipes though - you either love 'em or hate 'em - so tread carefully until the baby's here and you figure out which side you're on.
Plus the boxes are awesome - my 16 month old spent most of yesterday sticking one on her head and playing peekaboo.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Car boot sales are fab. Baby clothes often still with labels on, moses baskets, blankets, sleeping bags, baby gyms, travel cots, baby monitors etc all cheaper than you'd get them from ebay. Recent bargains me and my mum have acquired (not all for us- there's another baby due in family too) 2 x tomy baby monitors. £2 and £3. Immaculate mothercare travel cot. £3. Baby sleeping bags £1-£2.50. Mothercare cot size blankets and sheets, £0.50- £1. 2. 2x Bumbo seats £4 each. Lots of next / mothercare etc outfits £1 average. Seen lots of moses baskets, few prams etc, expensive baby gyms for £5- 10.2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013
MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £49390 -
Hi- only just logged on and seen all these lovely replies!
Thanks
For the nursery/bedroom I hope to get matching second hand furniture, can't remember what I posted in my first post without looking but I sold my expensive cotbed after my second daughter outgrew it and am not willing to fork out over £200 for another, so I really hope I can find someone local selling a matching set second hand. Am on a few fb selling sites and will browse preloved and gumtree and eBay. I went to my local carboot at the weekend but I never seem to see any good bargains- maybe it's the car boot itself or the time I go (mind you I thought I was early but it was already rammed!). Either nothing there or stuff that is way overpriced for a carboot- for example we saw a baby bath- v. old fashioned and looked scruffy and priced at £10!
I think I will give the nursing chair a miss as they are expensive and I doubt I will end up using it as much as I think I will. Changing table etc I would like if it matched and came at the right price- I can't remember using it much last time but it was plonked in my living room rather than the nursery/bedroom as we didn't have one spare then. I bought some wicker type lined baskets from somewhere like B&M or Home Bargains to put nappies in (small ones fit just nicely). Will do that again.
I have had a lot of good stuff from freecycle in the past so will try there. Thanks for the replies, off to browse the other section someone suggestedx

Sainsbury's do their 25% off all clothing every bank holiday starting the Tuesday before and ending bank holiday Monday. The sale rail is included in this offer and always worth a look. Buy things that they will grow into as and when you see something you like. I have managed to get glove sets of 2 pairs for 30p because it was out of season, sale rail and 25% off. The sleeping bags and bibs etc are also usually included.
Asda and Tesco usually do their baby events around the same time, possibly the week after? Sign up to all the clubs and they email you to tell you when they are coming up.0 -

I always double up our clubcard vouchers and use them on kids clothes the next couple of sizes up. I have boxes for sizes ahead (I think I'm up to 5-6 years for a 16 month old - although she's in age 2/3 clothes) and I pick stuff up in charity shops, sale rails at Tesco (found some great t-shirts in there and vests and things), and doubled up vouchers and just store stuff until we're in that size. Boxes all live under the cot so not taking up a load of space either. Then generally all I need to buy are a couple of packs of socks, possibly vests and a coat if they get into a size during the summer months when it's hard to get a coat in the shops.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Not sure if this has been suggested already as I haven't read all the posts but we got a lot of clothes, bedding, toys, play mat, bath stuff and even our travel system from a NCT sale. Check their website for your closest one! The stuff is always as new quality, or lightly used as they check it before sale!:eek:0

Ebay is always my first port of call, for things for the kids. I got a travel system for my son for £50, and bought bundle of newborn neutral things as people gave me blue things for him. Cot was new, a gift from my mum and dad. And a moses basket with stand was on deal with very, open an account and get £25 off, so paid it as soon as the bill came in. Own brand is great for nappies and wipes, and double up clubcard vouchers for clothes, as you can us them on sales clothes as well.0
