Some things I will ONLY by tesco value, including:
Value kidney beans at 21p for a 400g tin
Chopped tomatoes at 31p for a 400g tin
    Passata at 29p for 500g
Pitta breads 6pk for 22p (can be a bit hit and miss sometimes)
Bourbon biscuits 43p for 400g (identical to more expensive ones)
Cookies 40p for 250g (nicer than more expensive ones imo!)
    Orange/apple juice 65p/litre
    Longgrain Rice 40p/kg

I buy those ones too, they are all lovely.
Their value shortbread is also lovely, and so is their value Jaffa Cakes.

They also love the value tinned meatballs and spaghetti bolognese but I feel guilty buying these as I have convinced myself they are full of nasties!?

check the nutritional content and ingredients - i was worried about giving mine asda value spag bol and spag hoops but when i checked the tin, the value ones actually had more fibre, less sugar and less salt and slightly more tomato.

i've found this with lots of the asda value products. i prefer the value baby wipes as the ingredients list has far fewer chemicals listed than the branded ones. but can't vouch for the tesco value products - tesco is too far away!
  • Can't believe it! Bought my fav Tesco Jaffas this week, only to discover they've completely changed the recipe and they're not nearly as nice. Smaller, less chocolate and less cake on the bottom. Boo hiss Mr Tesco :(

We have been using tesco value for some time now, most of these contain less salt/sugar/ no MSG etc than other versions

Found the shower gel great, blue but quite a nice smell which was unexpected

The salad cheese (feta) is pretty good

Beans, tomatoes, mushy peas, are fab
Tinned potatoes are very cheap and fine if you use that kind of thing
Also use the everyday value fruit and veg....just watch out though as you may get better value buying an unbranded cauliflower as value has been very small recently
    Bananas great
    Apples lovely
    Same with the citrus fruits
    Same with carrots

Always use springforce toilet rolls now and daisy dishwasher tablets

Kids sweets are pretty good, as is orange juice cartons (big and lunchbox size)

There's very few value products we don't like or use in our household. The bonus to this is if tesco online out of stock when they pick your order they will pick a branded version and charge you the value price
  • I accidentally hit refresh when I typed this the first time. Of course 'R' has to be next to 'T' and opening a new tab to check prices ended up refreshing this one. Round two!:

Meals I make (normally in bulk, refrigerating any leftover portions):

Pasta: value pasta with a sauce made of value chopped tomatoes, family pack fresh mushrooms, value kidney beans, value dried parsley, value dried basil, an onion.

Stuffed Chicken: value frozen chicken breasts (<£5 for 1kg), value streaky bacon (£1.04 for a pack, 2 rashers is more than enough per breast), grated cheese (2 for £3 - normally I go medium cheddar and mozzerella as my two), spinach (£1 for 200g), whatever I want to coat it in (I use chilli powder and parsley because that's what I've got in my cupboard at the moment, but packet mixes work really well too), and whatever I want to serve it with (normally mushrooms (see above) and a salad.

I preheat the oven to ~180. I fry the bacon in some butter or oil until crispy. While that's happening, I coat the chicken breast(s) with oil and the spices/herbs. Then I fry the chicken in that same pan, on both sides until browned but the insides are still uncooked. I cut a slit into the chicken, then stuff it with the bacon, cheese and spinach. And put in the oven for 20 minutes, or until eating a bit of my chicken breast leads me to the decision that serving it up won't kill my parents. While the chicken's cooking, I deal with the other stuff.

Pie, potatoes and peas: Buy a value frozen pie, value tinned potatoes and value mushy/marrowfat peas. Oven one, boil the next and microwave the last. That's if I'm feeling reaaaaaally lazy, or if my taste buds are ruined by illness and I don't care about the taste of anything.

Chilli Con Carne: value frozen mince, an onion, garlic, value chilli powder, value chopped tomatoes, family pack mushrooms, value kidney beans.

I can vouch for the value dried noodles not being horrendous, although they're hardly haute cuisine. And the value tinned mushrooms are ok too, although I tend to get the family pack of fresh mushrooms if the rest of the meal's value. Not a fan of the value tinned curry.

Oh! (edit) the value biscuits are generally good too. Although can't beat a McVitie's digestive.
