Something like above?

No sod all about computers & want something that "looks after it".

I use the Microsoft Firewall, Windows Live anti virus & I would use Microsoft Defender for ads & cookies & tracking stuff, but it won't open on my PC due to a problem (actually it says its turned off & do I want to turn it on & when I click yes nothing happens) & I can't find a link to redownload.

IMO these products are simply snake oil.

I'm pretty sure that Defender functions have now been taken over by Microsoft Security Essentials (part of Live). You might want to schedule the odd Malwarebytes scan to make sure but you should spot if you've accidentally installed more than you bargained for by behaviour (changed search, toolbar, redirects, etc) and then the first port of call (for me at least) is a system restore to the previous checkpoint rather than messing about diagnosing and backing stuff out. Running Malwarebytes after is a good idea too.

Cant work out how to use it & I have used it before many years ago.

Plus kits all in German, even when you select English.

For computer novices this, for £18, looks quite good. The reviews for this type of product are surprisingly high. I'd be interested in how it prunes start-up times; whether it disables things automatically or presents the user with a list of "suggested programs to disable at startup".

Similarly I'd be interested in what the "process manager" does.

However, running this on an apparently broken vista SP2 may not be a good idea. Fix the basic problem then try it.

Are you saying my vista is broken?

Do I go to Microsoft & check for updates?

Sorry, not with vista specifically. closed will come up with a long list of changes based on your Hijack log though.
