Tesco CC incorrect charge!

in Credit cards
Last month accidentally exceeded credit limit (in Tesco) my fault and won't happen again. Got £12 charge. Fair enough. Paid money in to get under limit and stopped using card. (Interest free credit at the moment)
However this month, because the NEW STATEMENT OPENING BALANCE exceed the credit limit the Tesco computer issued a new £12 fee.
Phoned them up "Oh yes I see, it's a technical problem, I've credited the £12 back to your account" I expressed surprise and suggested that this must happen quite a lot "Oh yes, quite common - but it would be complicated to stop it happening"!!!! BEWARE

Have you had it confirmed, that the interest-free promotional deal will continue? You broke the agreement (by exceeding your limit), so the bank are within their rights to cancel the 0% deal and charge you interest.
If you haven't discussed that, contact Tesco immediately.0 -
Correction: It was interest free credit.bob_badger wrote: »(Interest free credit at the moment)
You generally lose any promotional rate if you breach the T&Cs.
Perhaps you should call them to verify?0 -
It is still interest free credit - the monthly payments have always been made so no interest is being charged0
-
So from the replies so far you think it is OK for Tesco to incorrectly apply charges???0
-
They weren't incorrectly applied charges. There's a £12 fee for each statement period in which you were over limit.
The person you spoke to was making it up to get you off the phone. Maybe it was the end of their shift?
I strongly suggest you call them to verify the 0% rate still exists, because I doubt it does...especially with two breaches in successive months.0 -
No charge has been applied incorrectly,bob_badger wrote: »So from the replies so far you think it is OK for Tesco to incorrectly apply charges???0 -
The charge is probably correct.
You need to get your balance back under the credit limit within 9 days of going over or you can be charged another £12 fee if the balance is still over the limit.
Before, if you were over your limit over both cycle periods, even if you paid the balance ASAP, you would still get a £12 fee - Tesco changed this as the thought it was unfair as they were using the old rules set by RBS before the big migration last year0 -
It's a good little trick that banks have - apply unfair and unreasonable charges, and refund them instantly if the customer complains. If necessary, say it's a mistake.
Many customers will pay up without complaining, so they make a lot of money, while avoiding any trouble from the watchdogs."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

Its unfair to charge an overlimit fee when you go over your limit and break a condition of the T&C's?
If there was no charge then what would the point be in the bank given you a credit limit?
As for being refunded, if you were shouted at all day by customers just for doing your job, wouldn't you just refund it back to avoid the argument?0 -
This forum is clearly a waste of space.
I fixed the over limit issue as soon as they sent the letter, so only one charge which I don't have an issue with. The first statement came out a few days after the over limit letter so the corrective payment wasn't on the statement BUT this was the first statement showing the over-limit issue.
I didn't even have to ask for the refund - I didn't shout at anybody - Tesco knew that the second charge was an error.0
