this may be quiet long
basically bought two two seaters just over a year ago when they arrived one had a couple of knife marks. Contacted harveys who sent out ecomaster to look at the cuts when ecomaster turned up we pointed out that one of the sofas was not lined up correctly so that the footrests on one of the sofas when both reclined clash into each other and when in the upright posistion there is a gap between the seat cushions big enough to drop the remote all the way to the floor he said its something they can sort when they do the cuts.
We never heard anything back from harvys and had to contact them about a month later to be told that the cuts are "natural" and as we didnt raise the problem with the mechanisim within 2 weeks they wouldnt do anything about it. we contacted trading standards and tried to reject the goods harvey would not accept this and said to take matters further we would have to pay for an independant inspection on the sofas. At the time we could not afford this cost as we were expecting our first baby. fast forward a few months and the leather has started to peel on the sofa and the seats have sagged and become unsupportive some bits of foam have come out from under the sofa.
We contacted havrveys again who eventually sent out ecomaster (now 12 months from dellivery date) they inspect both sofas and take down all faults the ecomaster chap said that the frame on the clashing sofa is attached correctly so it needs adjusting and they can insert foam inserts into the seats to sort that out and the peeling leather can be "filled" along with the cuts.
We had to contact harveys again to find out what was happening they arranged for ecomaster to come and repair the sofas.
a week later the ecomaster man arrives walks in has a look at the peeling leather says he cant do it as the section would need to be replaced and as he doesnt have the right colour to do the cuts he wont do any of the work needed to repair as they will only do all of the work or none.
after this we had to contact harveys again to be told that they are going to work out what is going to be more cost effective for them to do and they would call us back in a couple of days.We heard nothing and had to contact them again over a week later to be told that they will sort the foam and cuts (that they no longer classed as natural) and that the mechanism is something we have damaged and the peeling just happens.
We contated trading standards again and they said we should try the furniture onbudsman we have tried there appeal process and harveys had said to them that they will offer a replacement for the sofas we told the furniture onbudsman are not happy with the way harveys have conducted themselves and dont want a replacement as dont feel confident that replacements will not have these problems we asked for a refund or if they would do a different sofa
recieved an email today saying that harveys will only offer a replacement and that they concur with there decision as these problems are not likely to reoccur!!!
having thought more about this a replacement is not going to be ok its still the same poor quality materials being used to make the sofas so will more than likely have these problems again (maybe not with the mechanism)
this is where we are at right now and as harveys have finally admitted they are not fit for purpose are we entitled to a full refund?
