Warning: Selling your phone for cash? AVOID - www.mobilephonexchange.co.uk
Good morning all,
I'd like to flag up an important notice about selling your phone for cash. I've recently upgraded handsets and through using MSE decided to sell my old iPhone 4S which was in immaculate condition.
I used the pricing tool and found loads of different offers from different companies and like anyone just went for the highest one by post - in this case Mobile Phone Xchange.
They sent me an envelope and I sent the phone via the post office at a cost to me of £6.90 special delivery.
The next day late at night I received an offer for the handset of £39 instead of the £203 I had been quoted online! The email said the phone had water damage and/or the detector was missing - something I can confirm was not accurate having been offered £150 cash the day before sending from a local market trader in Manchester - who checked the phone inside out before sending.
I then decided to search online to see if people had experienced the same issues with the company and its clearly evident they have and to the same extent and in some cases an even worse experience.
So what next? I've called them this morning and they immediately offered me an additional £30 on top of the £39 already offered, still an absolute joke and I politely declined. I've asked them to return the phone to be via special delivery but from reading online and reviews I am unsure if the handset will ever make it back to me... In some cases users have had the phone back to them, in others nothings ever arrived.
So first point. Please avoid https://www.mobilephonexchange.co.uk with a wide berth, from reading other peoples reviews they are exactly the same feedback.
Point 2, how do we educate websites to remove them from the payment calculation page to ensure other people don't fall into the trap.
Point 3, If my phone doesn't arrive back can someone help me legally? I've thankfully still got the box and registered details of the IMEI so know which handset needs to arrive back in my hands.
Finally - please spread the word about this web site; I've linked to some other sites reviews below to show similar feedback.

Apologies this isn't a money saving thread, more of a how to not get ripped off
Anyone else had a similar experience?

I've spoken to them again today and they have confirmed they will be sending me the phone back via UPS at no cost to me? Worried!
Hope I get my phone back and can then go to another provider.MSE - Longtime learner of debt management, better at helping others than sorting myself out. Plans to move house in 2014. Deposit saving begins!0
