Hey,
As the title says I cannot open the windows in my bedroom, because as soon as I open them my eyes start to water, sneezing constantly, you get the picture!
Obviously as the windows are closed my room is like a sauna. I already have a fan but as soon as I crank it on full blast I start sneezing again prob because it is spraying pollen all over the place.
I can't really hang around the rest of the house as the windows are open and that gets my hayfever going again.
I was thinking of a cooler, but most people on here are saying they are pants and no better than a normal fan. Air con is a big no as I can't have a big hole in my wall for the tube/ or keep the tube out the windows cos of my hayfever.
Any ideas????
Cheers

Close your curtains, lye on the settee and place a wet cloth on your forehead. Have had hayfever for 34 years, it works a treat.0

Don't buy an evaporative cooler-they are a waste of money.
A proper air conditioner will do the trick, cheap to buy but eat the lekky. Look into getting a 'split' system..it has an indoor and outdoor unit connected by an umbilical cord. You could feed this through an existing vent, catflap or even out of a small window.
You could also look into "attic fans". Widely used in the states to good affect.0 -

I can't promise it will work for you but my OH had suffered with hay fever all his life (now in mid 40's  ) and he has improved a great deal since he started taking a teaspoonful of local (within 25 miles of where you live) honey every day. If you like honey start whenever you want, it can't do any harm!!0 -
I've had terrible hayfever since childhood, but have never allowed it to intrude on my life to the point where I can't even open the windows.
By the sounds of it, if you haven't done so for some time, you need to go and see your doctor about getting a better or newer treatment. There are new tablets coming out regularly, and your doctor will be able to prescribe presciption-only ones which I've always found highly effective.
I use Beconase nasal spray and some allergy eye drops (both widely available without prescription), and have found them to be of great relief.
I really, really do urge you to go see your doctor, as sitting around indoors sounds like it is, or very soon will make you miserable. Hayfever is a pain in the a***, but there's stuff you can take to make it bearable.0 -
Can't help regarding windows etc, but DH says to take a shower each evening to wash the pollen off your skin. Hold your nose and let the water run over your face to wash all the pollen off. Basically the idea is to wash off any pollen that might have got onto your skin before you go to bed each night.
As an aside, the pollen shouldn't be so 'high' in the atmosphere in the evenings, so opening your window an hour before you go to bed should cool the room down.

Completely agree with minesapint, I've had hayfever from I was 12, I literally take medication from March to October. I never miss a tablet, I also use a nasal spray and eye drops daily. It works fantastic.
Your suppose to be taking your hayfever tablets at least 2 weeks before the season is due to have it in your system
Other options, keep your curtains closed I do this anyway just to keep my house cool in the really hot weather, and the local honey someone else mentioned is suppose to work aswell

Cheers guys for all your help so far, I have used several different types of medication over the last few years by visiting my GP. The one that is most effective is Loratadine.
I have just purchased Medinose, which is that electric thing which you stick up your nose, I will have that in a few days, so hopefully that will help.
As for the honey idea, I tried this last year. I had a teaspoon every day, one month before hayfever season and also continued taking it all the way during hayfever season but it didn't make a difference.
I have just had a cold shower and this has made a difference, I feel a lot fresher and I am not sneezing as much, so thanks Frugal Fox for that idea.
As for my room, can anyone recommend a ioniser, that will get shot of the pollen that is lurking in my room?
Thanks again everyone, all your suggestions have been helpful!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
