I needed a new windscreen for a mk3 Mondeo about 6 months ago, the likes of National Windscreens was asking for between £250-£400. Ended up getting a non-heated for £120 - would have been £150 for heated - fully fitted.

Which is why I ask what car is it as the figures quoted using local fitters sounds higher than you'd expect of a typical motor.

So if I use their approved repairer, it's an exess, if I dont they'll only cover £150. That means its a rubbish or "value" policy.

Just checked the wifes Swiftcover (I've found them good, changes can be done online free of charge and the renewal price suggests it's not "value" insurance) will only pay out £100 if using a non approved repairer.

Out of curiosity, who are you insured with and whats the excess increase for a non approved repairer?
Kwikfit - £60 excess for approved, £70 for non-approved. No limitation on cover.

Had a quick look, if you have an 020 endorsment on your schedule, theres a £150 limit for non-approved.
    Might be worth checking.

I think that only applies to the TPFT policies with window cover as a separate option.

Is the issue they are short staffed with the summer holidays or do you have a rare-ish screen?

I'm dreading if I need my panoramic windscreen replaced. I can see there being a long wait. :(

I had a replacement the other week, which I had to wait for over a week for. Was told when I booked the appointment (by Autoglass) that they've been extremely busy over the summer with a lot of (poorly fitted) windscreens expanding & cracking with the heat. Plus this time of year there does seem to be a lot of debris and stone chips around, particularly with all the road dressing going on.

Not sure about that, section 3 (Glass Damage) isnt included with TPFT. The 020 specifically refers to Section 3.

The documentation for seperate cover is £100 max for non-approved, a £300 limit and no claim within 27 days.

Well I haven't got an 020 endorsement, so whatever it's for it doesn't apply to the standard, full comp policy. Maybe it only applies for cars over a certain age, or commercial vehicles etc.
