This just materialised in my selling section, been selling for ages, and I believe compliance is standard (though it seems to have been removed from the section where it used to be for some reason).
Is this a new thing for private sellers, I know new members are limited until they have better compliance, but existing sellers?

It looks like they want me to upgrade to a business account. I'm not a business, just selling off my old dvds and games from the loft.
I will now look to alternative ways to get rid (tbh, it has been a grind), for a company that is increasing fees all the time, they sure do like to stop sellers from using their site.0 -
How many things have you been listing just out of interest as no-one seems to know what triggers them wanting you to be a business. Are there a lot of new items?0

There doesn't seem to be any sort of trigger for the business upgrade. Go and read some of the challenge threads on other MSE boards where people are regularly listing 100 x 99p listings a month plus 100 items on every FLW without problems.
I posted recently to ask if anyone had been 'invited' to upgrade recently, as I hadn't been contacted by anyone at all for a couple of months which is very unusual. It always used to be second hand clothes sellers that were targeted but I know plenty using all their free listings on clothing they buy at car boots, with no issues at all
OP have you actually been told you have to upgrade or is it something you think they are intimatingI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There is a link under the new allowances section that says something like "increase your allowance" and it takes you straight to a business upgrade screen.
I've listed over 100 this month, mostly dvds with a roughly new/used split of 30/70.0 -
Make sure those DVDs are worth listing though, some DVDs are pretty much worthless and won't sell, even at 99p.0

That's Ok then, they are merely suggesting you might want to increase your allowance. It doesn't sound like they are forcing you to upgrade, and it seems that they rarely bother doing that anymore .
Absolutely not aimed at you OP- but I have given up reporting wrongly registered 'private' sellers now as ebay really don't seem to care.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So what are the benefits/negatives of going to a business account? They've pretty much told me now I can't list until I have done by setting the limits to a really low amount.
I'm not a business, but I reckon I've got nearly two months worth of old dvds and games (as well as more stuff in the attic though), so they've kind of got me.
The idea I'm making some kind of profit is hilarious, but then I have been selling a lot, so in a way I'm not surprised.0 -
So you can have a personal and a business account, so wha stops me from listing everyone on my personal account?0

ebay may stop you if they suspect you are running a business.0 -
Can I close my account and reopen a new private one in six months or so? Or will they remember me and force me to register as a business, when I'll probably only want to sell 4 or 5 items a month at that point (maybe a little more as it would be just after christmas).
Ridiculous I have to contemplate this, a foolish decision by ebay.0
