Iceland car hire - sand and gravel protection - or just excess protection

Hi All

Off to Iceland in November...looking to hire a car for 5 days and want to make sure we're covered insurance wise.

I've find a decent deal that includes the usual CDW...But i want to do a separate excess coverage. However will this excess coverage cover any sand, ash and gravel damage that may be caused?

I know that if i book it with the hire company they'll sting me for the excess reduction/SCDW (appox 9 euros per day) and sand, ash and gravel cover at around 13 euros a day - which is obv quite a lot! However if i get the external excess insurance its between £2-5 a day! so LOADS cheaper!

What do you think? would i be covered with this excess insurance?

Thanks
