Hi, before i start i'd just like to say that i know next to nothing about computers and i have a great difficulty in explaining things well. :D
I have a desktop computer and in my front room which is connected to broadband with a modem via my cable box, i'm with virgin. I wanted to move the computer upstairs into my bedroom but being a complete novice i wouldnt know where to start. :o
Is the only possibilty a wireless thingy? or can i use a usb extension cable? The thing is i have a cable box in my room and there is a wire that runs from down here to my bedroom but it goes out of the wall downstairs then back in the wall upstairs, i know that probably doesnt make sense but basically some of the cable/wire is outside, so would i just be able to run the usb extension the same way or am i being plain dumb :o:confused:

it would probably be best to get a wireless router.

my wireless adapter wont work if it has more than 2 1mtr extension cables plugged into it

If the cable box in your room works and has a modem socket on it you could try plugging your existing modem into it. This is assuming you only need to connect one computer to broadband.

If you wish to connect more computers then a router would provide the best solution. You can buy routers from many shops and online ( such as ebuyer.com) , make sure you search for DSL or Cable routers since there are also other routers on the market which have modems built in (these are called "ADSL Modem Router")

No i only have one computer, it's connected up via some sort of adapter or something, which cant move as its connected to the outside cable which works the whole thing :o
I think i'll just have to go wireless, what sort of prices am i looking at? i dont want anything fancy i only use t'internet for surfing and occasionally download music.

Look in your Argos book p545 this will explain what you need and the price.
    I have 3 computers running on Virgin/Ntl
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

No I bought mine from a computer fair. You can get them in Curry's, Dixon's etc. PC World have a TV advert out now for £99 they'll install one for you that includes everything you need.

They also have the offer on their web site.

They are around £30-40 for the router (ebuyer prices) and maybe another £10 for the USB wireless adapter which you will need to connect to the PC.
