Like Worcester city centre, you can't (with one exception) park for free within about a 5 mile radius, I used to work there and the parking is £4 a day. £4!!! It cost me £4 in petrol to get there!!!
I ended up parking in the only street they couldn't restrict, a street full of doctors/dental surgeries and care homes, which left me a 1 mile walk to work.
£4.00 a day! You should try Aberdeen - anywhere there is free parking you need to take a bus to the city centre.
There are several bus lanes in parts of the city that are in operation 24/7 - Pity we don't have a round the clock bus service to use them.
The on-street parking is £1 per hour - but starting with a minimum £2 for 2 hours, then a £1 per hour after that.
You can no longer stop for free for 45 mins as before - which was ample time to nip into a shop and be back in a 10 to 15 minutes or so
I have long since stopped shopping in the city centre because of this.0 -

£5.80 an hour outside my house which operates 8.30am until 6.30pm0 -
Portsmouth have been trying to stop car movement for a few years now. I remember reading some time ago a piece by a transport Councillor or something saying he aimed to remove parking spaces in the city and increase one-way systems, all with the aim of making it more difficult to drive in the city!Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
The tin said 'yellow paint', ...so the paint must be yellow? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0

Try living in Brighton, most of the city centre is £3.50 for up to 1 hour, £6.00 for 2 hours... even more along the seafront - I think its £10.00 for 4 hours in the main part, I'm not sure because I never go down there as it's so expensive these days, the cheapest car park is the NCP one (ie the one not run by the council).
If the Greens get their way soon the whole city will have a residents parking area where you have to pay £150 a year to park your car outside your own house. It's ridiculous. Oh, and if that isn't enough they are making the whole city a 20 mph zone, even the main roads!
Sorry, rant over.0 -

But this can cause chaos in some towns cities, with the elderly disabled badge holders sometimes parking in stupid locations (on corners, on the ring road, double parked in narrow streets, etc) and sometimes even blocking entire roads completely.
Even if you have a blue badge that doesn't allow you to park causing an obstruction. Blue badge holders can be ticketed just like any other vehicle if they break the rules. It specifically states this in the blue badge handbook.
If your local council aren't enforcing the rules properly, that's their problem.
(For the record, I've not yet had cause to use the double yellow privileges of my partner's blue badge)0 -
They should take a leaf out of Tendering District Council's book. They have issued permits to all residents in the Council district allowing them up to 4 hours free parking in any Council carpark.
Meanwhile next door in the Council district of Colchester (my territory), they attempted to introduce paid-for parking in Dedham, but the locals caused such a sh1tstorm that they ended-up dropping the idea.
Hasn't stopped the idiots raising parking fees & introducing a car ban in Colchester High Street (well, not so much of a 'ban', more a case of 'you can still drive along it, must enter via Head Street only').Never Knowingly Understood.
