Is it my responsibility to tell them I don't need a TV license?

Hi I just rented a property and I am sure that I don't need a TV license. Do I need to tell them this myself or can I just leave it?
I don't mind receiving junk mail about updates on their database etc as I just chuck it straight into the bin if its not important
Its just that I'm not sure if by law I am responsible for telling them?
I'm don't want to tell them as they send a random guy into my property to waste my time...not something I'm fond off really.
Thanks

You only tell them if you don't want the threatening letters through your door each month [STRIKE]asking[/STRIKE] sorry scrub that---demanding on threat on conviction and a fine in the thousands.lonewolf123 wrote: »Hi I just rented a property and I am sure that I don't need a TV license. If a random guy or woman knocks on your door then just don't answer it and you inadvertently do get your camera out and film them...then ask them for their name..they usually walk off at this point. if they continue refuse to answer any questions...closing the door works. If they don't get an admision of guilt from you they leave. They have no right of entry.:footie:

You don't have to tell them, but if you do tell them it stops the junk mail about various action they are apparently going to take.0

I know two people who don't have TV's and don't need a licence. They have both been treated like subversive criminals and made to feel terrible.
One lady had her home searched by intimidating burly men even looking in cupboards for a TV. She didn't realise she didn't need to let them into her home. I don't think she could have stopped them even if she did, her being so slight and afraid.
The letters they write are nasty and threatening. You wouldn't believe it was your own government treating you this way over £145.50 or the supposed Aunty Beeb.
I wonder why they don't treat MP's who fiddle £000s more than £145 in this manner.
Sad to say you are in for a nasty time whether you inform them in advance or not.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.
