What about splitting the amount between an item and cash.

then the remainder of the money in a nice envelope inside0 -
My aunt & uncle have always given me money for my birthdays & I always really appreciate it, it honestly it is the best present as I could buy what I like clothes wise or put it towards a holiday etc0

one of my friends for her godsons 18th birthday, gave him a pound coin for every year since he was born (each with the year on IYSWIM). She had a few issues with one year where no new £1 coins had been produced (I think she got an isle of wight one in the end).
I thought it was a really nice idea.0 -

"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.0 -
The only 18th present I remember (because I still have them) was a pair of crimpers. (It was 1981!)
I loved them, and they were still in use up until about 13 years ago.
I'd just give her money unless you know there's something she really wants.0 -
I bought both my nieces pearl ear studs. Several years later each of them wore them when they got married..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I really appreciated several of the presents I got for my 18th - and none of them were money (which I was grateful for at the time, but the things I still have I still actually have, if that makes sense).
My Dad gave me an early Victorian copy of Foxe's Book of Martyers (I was doing A level history at the time) my godmother gave me an amber necklace, and my godfather a leather-bound Shorter Oxford Dictionary.
I'm not suggesting any of those actual things, because I'm not your neice, but I still have and appreciate all of them, 17 years later....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Akoya? Freshwater? Tahitian? South Sea?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
My daughters had a Pandora ring as that's what they like. Could you take your niece shopping so she can choose something?0
