I bought a lovely purple silk skirt in the sales, and on it's first wearing managed to get chicken fat on it on it when my fork was knocked off my plate. Yes, I was annoyed!

Small amount of detergent ont he stain, then rinsed well should work :D

WE have an exisiting thread asking this question, so I'll add this one to keep ideas together ;)

What about a few greasy spots sustained last night on a dry-clean only dress which is silk chiffon outer and viscose lining/underslip, please?!!

I don't want to ruin it as I love it and it was a real bargain in the sales!

  • Anyone got any suggestions for a grease spot on a silk tie? OH managed to drip butter on it the other day, and I've tried everything from tie 'spot' cleaners to stain devil. It's just not coming out and it's a real shame, as it's a lovely tie.

I managed to get grease out my new silk dress (pure silk, with a viscose underlayer and is supposed to be dry clean only) last week by washing it gently by hand under a cold shower with the tiniest amount of shampoo applied to the actual stain (for greasy hair!). I had to press the pleats back into it gently with a cool iron afterwards, but it looks absolutley fine. Do watch the water temperature though - I did notice some colour run when the shower was a bit too hot :)

I have silk placemats for Christmas, they have stains on them form last year I am wondering how to get them clean given that I can't chuck them in the wash because they have some sort of stiff material in the middle, it could be card or anything.

So, any ideas how to get them clean? Gravy/grease type stains. Would a steamer work? I have one but it seems to live at my Mum's. Should I put anything on the stain?

    (have googled, not much joy)

not sure if this would actually work, but I've seen little "spot wipes" for silk ties in M&S

eta - found them in tie rack too: link
