Grease stains on silk dress

Bought a lovely silk dress from the monsoon sale, and for husbands birthday dinner did baked camembert for starter. Now have managed to get some cheese on my dress. Any advice what to do? I could just try and get the stain out or wash the whole dress (seems a bit of a waste as only wore it for one dinner). Anything I could use like vanish to get it out? Don't want my beautiful dress to be ruined. Thanks.

You have to be careful with silk but I usually use a squirt of washing up liquid to break down the fats in the stain, then wash straight away as per instructions. If you wash it in cold water then the stain won't "cook" in and even if it doesn't all come out first time, a second go will probably do it.

    Hope that helps.

I have searched for an answer so apologies if I have missed it. My daughter went out on Friday in a brand new silk dress. When she came home she noticed grease stains down the front. She thinks it could have been the margharita pizzas fault (nothing to do with her you see). Can someone help with advice please? (thats advice for the stain not what to do with my daughter!) Thanks

I got a spray from asda called Stain Slayer which i used for a wax stain & it worked a treat. I'd previously tried ironing with brown paper & it hadn't worked, but this brought my top up a treat ! if i remember right it was about £2 for the tin. ;)

Try dabbing with some eucalyptus oil on it, then washing it on a low temp. (or even hand wash).

Hi guys, can't find any specific advice on this, apologies if I've missed it...

I bought a lovely purple silk skirt in the sales, and on it's first wearing managed to get chicken fat on it on it when my fork was knocked off my plate. Yes, I was annoyed!

It's machine washable, so I immediately washed it, but the stain refuses to budge. Is there any way I can rescue this garment, or is it doomed to the bin already? :(

  • Now, I find there's amazing grease-busting power from a little splodge of washing-up liquid on a damp cloth, rubbed into the grease-mark as soon as it happens. Rinse with warm water, then repeat a couple of times - nine times out of ten, gets rid of the grease!

Have you tried Vanish bar on the mark? This is normally good for the one time out of ten that the washing-up liquid doesn't shift :)

    Good luck!

Try squidging the washing up liquid with your hands and working it in. Doing this before washing would have been better, but worth a go.

    slightly warm iron
brown paper, cut into squares and only use them once

if you put the paper over the mark and briefly move your iron over it may work.

note - take the paper off immediately and discard so that none of the fat transfers to anywhere else.

I was told this to get wax off a carpet but it has worked for me with grease stains as well.
  • Very similar to above really - put some talc on the stain, and a clean, thin cloth on top. Iron the cloth and the talc should absorb the oil

    Good luck

or iron onto good, thick paper towels or napkins - but in all honesty detergent should shift it - washing upliquid, vanish bar as have been suggested.
