Diary of a home owner wannabe (my 6 year journey)

Phew - housework all done and it's only 3pm. That's my weekend started :j Hoping for a NSD today - first one of the month.
End of the first week of Feb and a total weekly spend of £345 - a third of that was on programming fees for DS, £56 for Autotrader advert (hoping to have a couple of viewings tomorrow), £86 on food, £25 on petrol, £28 on me and £20 on school lunches.
Off to London for a couple of days on Sunday for my birthday treat. I told DH I didn't need anything but would like to go away. He's booked the theatre to see Spamalot using the vouchers my mum gave us that we couldn't use last year because the show we wanted to see was cancelled. I have asked that the kids pay for me and DH to have a meal rather than buying me stuff so I'm hoping it should be a fairly cheap event. Looking forward to going to some museums and the Tate Modern which is where me and DH had our first date
Daily food budget £8.42
Happy Friday everyone

Very quick update. Didn't quite manage a NSD yesterday due to a swift half (or 6) at the local without having eaten resulting in a major hangover
Good news is - we've just sold the Jeep :j - deposit handed over and it is being picked up next friday.
Unfortunately the money is all allocatedso nothing to go into the savings pot. I need to put the kids budget back in the black, put some more money into the holiday budget having booked an expensive holiday when I was feeling fed up, pay of a rather large tax bill and get DSS2s car fixed so that it is roadworthy. But at least I have the money to do all that. I may shove a couple of hundred pounds into the savings if I can.
Have a good weekend every one

Thank you all for the birthday wishes - I had a lovely time in London, fairly on budget - though you have to get a small mortgage out just to have a coffee or a glass of wine
We had a great time though. I think we walked the length of London - mainly down the paths of Regents Canal (didn't get on the tube once) We stayed in a hotel near to where we think we would like to live in Shoreditch - which is buzzing with the Hoxton creatives. Great community, though we need to get in quick as the house prices are definitely on the up. We were so lucky with the weather - didn't get rained on once and the sun even shone for a lot of the day on my birthday. Walked down memory lane at the Tate, had a wonderful meal (not cheap) and really enjoyed Spamalot at the theatre. We even managed to squeeze in a trip to the cinema. Have come back thoroughly exhausted to 5 loads of washing and a sick child in bed.
I'm finding it very difficult to get back into the everyday drudge - it's amazing how quickly you get out of a daily habit. Have lots to do today - starting with reconciling my budgets with the money we spent

Woke up to a lovely home made card - and a poem, chocolates and roses. What a lovely DH I have. From me he got a very heart felt letter and a card. If I'm honest I don't go in for Valentines day - I do love romance but not when it is prescribed to a specific day. I'm lucky that DH is a romantic soul anyway
Today I held £4800 smackeroonies in my hand - the most I have ever had in cash. The people who bought the jeep came round to take it away and paid cash for it. Was straight up the bank - and only slightly miffed that it's allocated and I can't blitz just a little bit of it. Thinking of getting a MCds for tea to celebrateI have put £1000 into the business as a directors loan to tide DH over until we get some money in - so if I'm lucky I may get it back and that will go straight into the savings.
I should have an additional £230 which is the rebate I get for cancelling the insurance, unfortunately £180 of that needs to go to the counselor's bill for the month. Oh well £50 out of £5000 is not to be sneezed at :rotfl:
Daily food budget stands at £8.63 - that won't stretch too far with half term next week
House work all done for the weekend so looking forward to relaxing - though I do appear to have a lot of taxiing to do.
Enjoy the weekend MSErs
