Get used to it because if you take it back it will be priced as a trade-in, nothing more. Reminds me of a colleague who was a life-long Jag fan and tried moving over to the dark side by getting a 7 series about 15 years ago. He wouldn't adjust to it, made up all sorts of reasons for getting rid and lost a massive £1k for each of the 12 weeks he kept the 750 before selling it back to the supplying dealer!

Many manufacturers once offered a "30 day money back if you do not like it" option, I had it with a Rover purchased in 1994, but they ditched it a long time ago, one reason being too many people were taking the !!!!.

Well 20% of the price went straight to HM Customs and Excise so there is your starting point.

I can never see the relevance of that, other than its a rough correlation to typical initial loss.

Some people seem to believe that you lose at least the VAT element of the purchase price as soon as you drive the car away.

Obvious to say that you don't.

Oh i know, but thats not what causes the initial heavy depreciation.

Sounds like OP was pressured into the sale by more than just the salesman.......

My first car was a 1978 Morris Marina Coupe 1.3 in bright blue and lots of rust.

My dad talked me into it, even though i really wanted a mini. His reasoning was "there was further distance for the engine to travel before it was on your knees if i was in an accident"

Never liked the car. Bought a mini at the first opportunity after spending (what seemed like) a fortune on it.

*any* car i ever fancied he would say "leave it a week and he'll be easier to talk to". If it sold in that week "oh it must have been a good one then". If it didnt "oh there must be something wrong with it if it hasnt sold"

Needless to say i stopped involving him in my car purchases.

    Such is life i guess.

My Grandad had the same car in yellow/green, had it from new when he retired. Was eventually passed onto my brother as his first car, where it was labelled the 'Pea Green Speed Machine'.

    Hi All,

I just recently bought a new car (a Ford Ka). It wasn't my first choice and I don't feel happy with it. Has anyone else had this issue and what have you done? What are my rights, I feel a bit daft phoning up and saying 'I don't like it can you take it back?'
I picked it up at the start of the month.

    Your advice is appreciated!!

Whats wrong with it or what dont you like about it ?
