Wouldn't have thought a P2-266 would have a hope with XP, no matter how much memory you put in it. I'd go with Albert's suggestion and put Win98 back on (or upgrade slightly to WinME - better for USB stuff). Even then, it's likely to be slow - would guess it must be well over 10 years old?

XP will run quite happily on 128 (just) but favours 256 or greater. In my experience, WinME was never much of an improvement over 98se and delivered very little in terms of improvement to USB.

    YMMV of course.
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Well I did say upgrade slightly... I found ME better than 98SE for Creative USB stuff. Don't know why it gets so much slagging - more than good enough for surfing (horses for courses and all that).

I still think it's a much more viable solution than whopping extra memory into a Windows 3.1/95 spec machine...

I've put Windows ME on a similarly old laptop. Works fine. Was easier to update than Windows 98SE.

To upgrade ram, turn off laptop, remove battery, unscrew the plate on the bottom, unclip the existing ram, and clip in the new ram.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
