What kind of Mattress do you have for your child?

Right, following on from my other Bunk Bed thread, I have found the bunkbed I want for a really good price. It also comes with 2 Mattresses and you can choose which you like. They are as follows:
QUILTED DAMASK MATTRESS +£51

A Damask covered quilted mattress featuring 13.5 gauge rod edge spring system and diamond quilting.

Mattress Depth: 7.5" (approx)
  • Comfort Rating: Medium
ORTHOPAEDIC HAND-TUFTED MATTRESS +£86

An orthopaedic mattress can be a benefit to your health. It provides a supportive and restful sleep, allowing you to recover from a busy day. Sleeping on an orthopaedic mattress is one of the most effective means of ensuring a good night's sleep. An orthopaedic mattress will also help to protect your back by allowing your spine to retain its natural profile.
  • Mattress Depth: 7.5" (approx)
  • Comfort Rating: Medium
  • 12.5 Gauge open spring
LUXURY DAMASK HAND-TUFTED MATTRESS +£66

Provides sky high comfort levels at a refreshingly low price. Featuring an open coil spring unit with extra edge support and hand tufting for a medium feel, the mattress will satisfy both your body and your bank balance! This mattress comes with a luxury Belgium damask cover.

Mattress Depth: Approx 7.5inch
  • Covered in a luxury Belgium Damask
  • Hand tufted for firmer support
  • Open coil spring unit
  • Extra edge support
  • Medium/firm Comfort
1000 POCKET SPRING MATTRESS +£111

Pocket sprung technology allows individual springs to working independently of each other. This provides support to the coontours of your body, eradicating the sinking feeling that is associated with the traditional spring system.

Pocket sprung mattresses are hugely popular and have revolutionised the way we sleep.

Mattress Depth: 7.5" (approx)

  • Medium-firm feel
  • Hand-Tufted
  • 1000 individual pockets
  • Side stitched border
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Side air vents
  • Flag-stitched handles

I put the prices there just to show difference, but the 1000 pocket sprung is top of my budget, I just don't know if it's overkill for a 3 & 5 year old?

What would you choose for your child if you could?

For a 3 and 5 yo I'd choose the £66 one, average life of a mattress is 10 years, so they'll need another one by the time they're teenagers.

The pocket springs should last longer, the open coils can be felt after a while, no matter how young/small the kids are (IME!).

I look at it as I wouldn't buy an open coil for myself so why should I buy them for my kids. The better quality mattress's should last the lifetime of the bunk beds then (hopefully!)

We made the mistake of buying cheap mattresses for bunk beds. (Kids grown up now.) We had to replace them with better ones as they ended up very uncomfortable. Something to bear in mind is that smaller kids need softer mattresses than adults (so we were eventually advised), so the orthopaedic one would be inappropriate anyway.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

I know with bunkbeds, they should only b a certain depth on the too.

Okay, I only bought cheap Argos bunk frames, but went for the most expensive mattresses I could get with them.

They were airsprung charley deluxe shallow ones. They r really thin, but hopefully as they cost me £120 each, they should b ok.
