Because I am very sure I would of got at least one complaint against me from another MSE member if not more & if you have a complaint against you then they won't pick you

But you don't know? You might be surprised. Not sure many people complain about specific members. The posts are usually the topic of reports, aren't they?

I do get what you mean Jaibaby, I think. But I honestly think that's different. Hopefully you know me well enough by now to know that I don't have an issue with someone for disagreeing with me :D I just think that free speech means being able to voice something without being got at for it every time. That to me truly is bullying. I wouldn't mind so much the topic being brought up on a different thread, just not whenever someone innocently expresses that they're selling a prize.

It shouldn't be banned, but there should be one open thread where everyone gets one post on how they feel about it :rotfl: and not a single post more!

Really though, I doubt a Board Guide would close that thread anyway - the OP got upset because she had been reported for being rude. We can't be dictators of things just because we don't like what we see.

They are but can also go personal from a thread. I've had a polite warning once from MSE Andrea I think it was last year about a topic I was posting on.

I'm guessing that counts as a mark against you although I was not rude & did not break any rules, the person just did not like the subject I was talking about :o

I'm going to quit here. I take the point that most peeps are making and I am convinced you are right. I didn't mean to stir it all up again :D

Love the idea of one big thread where everyone gets ONE say and then promises to leave it alone :rotfl:

I'm against banning such a topic on an open forum.

What topic will someone request to ban next?

Tbh, whilst i think there was the odd rude post in that thread, the thread in general wasn't all bad and was ok compared to a lot of other treads i see on the MSE forum in general.

Don't think it should be a banned topic, I think as long as things can be discussed reasonably ok without descending into anything too sinister it should be free for people to make their views on - after all it is a forum.. and also there are certain topics that are always going to be controversial and it's maybe up to the OP's to think about whether it's a good idea to start those off knowing how they may end up. Differing views are interesting to read..

I also think bullying is mentioned far too often when someone doesn't like what is said (to me bullying is more aimed at targeting the person whatever they say, not the topic in question). I appreciate it's a bit subjective though but some more sensitive people handle things worse than others.

On other forums though maybe a BG would have closed the particular thread in question, rightly or wrongly, that is what often happens especially when it gets into private message arguing spilling out onto threads.

Blulu - I think you are usually always the fair voice of reason on the comp board I should add :D

    Hi Team MSE,

On the comping forum when anyone mentions selling on a prize, it almost always leads to arguments and usually some seriously upset people. I've thought for a long time that the debate should be banned. Not to stop people from mentioning that they want to sell something, or have sold something. What I would ban would be bringing up the rights/wrongs about doing so.

Here is a link to the latest of so many similar and futile 'discussions'.

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4745563

I know that banning a topic is not something to be done lightly, but I believe it would be so much better for the forum. For example, today right at the start, we could've cut the horrible thing off with a, 'This topic is banned'.

    In hope

'Advertising' which includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales are already proibited under the forum rules.

Presumably posts "discussing" the sale of an item which you object to are just disguised adverts?
All posts which we consider to be advertising will be removed where reported.
So presumably if they are not reported, they remain

    Do you report anything?
I used to but discovered it just causes too much trouble and have now given up.

Some may say I prefer the reports to be about me, rather than from me nowadays :D
