Suggesting a topic to ban

Hi Team MSE,
On the comping forum when anyone mentions selling on a prize, it almost always leads to arguments and usually some seriously upset people. I've thought for a long time that the debate should be banned. Not to stop people from mentioning that they want to sell something, or have sold something. What I would ban would be bringing up the rights/wrongs about doing so.
Here is a link to the latest of so many similar and futile 'discussions'.

I know that banning a topic is not something to be done lightly, but I believe it would be so much better for the forum. For example, today right at the start, we could've cut the horrible thing off with a, 'This topic is banned'.
In hope

I'm always against 'banning' opinions.
That comes from being told to shut up on this forum on more than one occasion when my opinion wasn't wanted.
Maybe if people didn't get all high and mighty over a topic and stir it needlessly then there wouldn't be any arguments at all.
That's my two cents:)0 -
No I don't think someone asking for advice about selling a competition win should be banned, or talking about selling any win.
After all it's a forum.
What needs to be dealt with is peoples inability to behave on a forum in a friendly appropriate manor.

Thanks our Lass. I'm struggling to disagree with you, being honest
I'm usually a huge advocate of free speech, and part of me will be uncomfortable if I get what I'm asking for. Although, if it saves what happened today from happening again...Oh I dunno. I'll let those with better brains decide.

I too am against most kinds of censorship - I think with regards to the post that prompted this one perhaps maybe there should have been a reminder to stay on topic (as it went way off the OPs original question). Furthermore I think there are people on the forum who will be "difficult" regardless of the subject unfortunately. I do agree though that this is just a debate that gets rehashed over and over and over by the comping community - it's one of those things where people should really just agree to disagree and leave it at that.A closed mouth gathers no feet.0

I just read through what happened today and didn't think it was that bad to be honest. Couldn't really see what all the fuss was about. I've never had a problem with the poster in question and it didn't help that people beside the OP got affronted by the comment. THAT'S what created the negative to-ing and fro-ing.
There's always gonna be people who don't like what others say or do and the way they say or do it. That's life I'm afraid.0 -
What I want to say will probably take the whole thread in a different direction, but I feel I have to say it
If a BG was online at the time we could of Pmed them the link & they could of closed the thread & reported it so MSE forum team could look it over & decide what to do

You're on here all day (or you seem to be, anyway), you have all these ideas, you're the 'voice' of this whole thing. Why are you not putting yourself forward for the role?
Not criticising. I'm just wondering.0 -

If you want to ban the "free speech" of anyone who disagrees with yourself, and others, on this matter, maybe it would be better to ban anyone bringing it up in the first place?
I mean, if someone didn't come on here and say "I've won something - but I'm selling it!" then others wouldn't get annoyed and reply with what they feel.
If you came on and said you'd won something, but mentioned nothing about selling it, no one could flare the thread into an argument of morals.
If you get what I meanThanks to all posters :A0 -

Because I am very sure I would of got at least one complaint against me from another MSE member if not more & if you have a complaint against you then they won't pick you

I don't think that it should be banned. People disagree all the time and that shouldn't be a problem
Also, this issue is mentioned in the 40 Comping Tips (tip no. 8) http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/Competitions-comping-win
