Hi

I've been buying things via ebay and other online sellers / retailers for years and up to now never really had a problem up to now.

I have a Go Pro sports camera and bought a chest mount from an ebay seller, located in the UK similar to the one pictured below

0022333_gopro_chest_mount_harness_for_gopro_cameras.jpeg

It's advertised as non original but "100% same as original" and about 50% cost of the original.

It took over a week to arrive which made me a little suspicious. Then i checked my emails this morning and got one at 7:30am via ebay from the seller.

"I am deeply sorry to inform you that I found I maybe delivered a slightly different item. The one you ordered has two straps, but what I sent to you has only one strap which have benn also ordered by some other customers. I am sorry that it is not what you expect, however, I am here trying to see if it is possible that you may take into consideration about the high cost and delivery charge which may cause by returning the goods and the loss we will suffer, may I ask your pardon to accept my partial refund for that? The domestic cost difference for one strap is less than 2pounds with those with two straps, can you accept my refund of 6.99, your kind consideration and support would be hightly appreciated.
please contact us after you get item.
regards

"

My friend has one with one strap and the camera sits squint and it's not overly comfortable when cycling, that's why i made sure the one i was ordering had 2 straps.
I've emailed them back asking for a full refund as they should have checked if this was ok with me before sending the item and it's not at all going to be suitable. I've invited them to arrange a courier to collect the item as well. Does this seem reasonable? I'm a little rusty with distance selling regs. Was paid via Paypal

Thanks

  • Have you received the item? If not, refuse delivery.

If you have, where did the item come from? How much will return postage cost? It may be easier to return it yourself, once you have their agreement that they will cover return costs.
  • I agree with jacques.
Once you have the item it may be far harder to get a full refund including the return postage costs.
Refusing delivery is perfectly acceptable under the DSR's, and by doing this, the seller won't have any proof of delivery should the need for a paypal dispute arise.

I got the item a few hours after the email. It was small enough to fit through the letterbox and wasn't signed for so i had no choice to accept it.

It's came from Portsmouth according to the return address. Not sure on postage costs. I could reuse the packaging so probably £4 or so at a guess

Then drop them an email and ask how to return the item, and how they will cover the cost of you doing so. If you want to use a courier Hermes offer a very cheap service, or you could probably send it as a small packet via RM.

No. It's only the strap that the OP purchased that is the problem,

I think they get away with it because it doesn't come with the the patented GoPro unique camera mount. You need to use one of the self adhesive ones you get with the cam.

Most of this stuff from Portsmouth is fake or copies. As it is dropshipped from China.
