    Just a note guys,
Been to the doctors this morning and have been given 2 weeks sick.
I was not going to take it but she said i am stupid if i dont as things are really affecting ym health.
I phoned my employer when i got home and they were not too pleased that i am off.

I am going to struggle to make ends meet over the next month or two as a result of me taking time off and just getting SSP.

I do have a plan though, as already since it has been announced that i am off for two weeks i have had 2 calls from my team as they dont know how to do some think (or stand on there own two feet) now ok. they are very important things.
Should i take the odd phone call during the day at reasonable time? (ie: 10am - 4pm?) and then use this as means to get my employer to pay me full pay during my time off?

    Thanks

    Chris

DO NOT TAKE CALLS THAT ARE WORK RELATED

If you do then you are working, not off work being ill.

By all means take calls from your employer asking after your well being but that should be as far as it goes.

Having only just stumbled across this post, I can say that you have been exploited and treated very badly.
I used to deal with working time issues on a daily basis and know what can and cannot be done, to a large extent, and you have been well and truly screwed.

    Thanks guys.

Well i have left my network admin in charge for the 2 weeks. He is really !!!!ed off that they have put him on call as well. He thinks he wont be able to hack the nature of some of the calls.

I see that the majority think i should just let them struggle....
Looks like i am going to have to then!

Now during this two weeks, i see it as a good opportunity to start applying for another job.
I am legally allowed to do that ain't i?

    Thanks for all the support!

Unless there is something very odd in your contract, like a golden handcuff clause, then apply away.

    NOOOOOO.

DO NOT TAKE A SINGLE PHONE CALL. Two weeks of them having to manage without you will put you in an extremely strong position as they'll be left without any doubt as to how invaluable you are.

You then go back after being off sick and ask for a meeting with the management where you tell them how having your sleep interrupted every day along with not being able to wind down has made you ill and that you feel that because they're not willing to address it, you'd possibly have to leave the company for your own health.

And then sit back and wait. Should only take a day or so before they're bending over backwards to sort it out.
