I believe that EDF are one of the most responsible and respected energy suppliers that insist on weekly unsolicited calls to your home. We also get regular two monthly visits from EDF cold callers that are so insistent that there product and service is better than any other energy company that I don't really know how I can refuse their wonderful sales techniques. Joking aside have you thought of looking for a different supplier as EDF would be the last company that I would put my business with. I'm sure there will be many satisfied customers but one of them I will never be.

I'm supplied with EDF on their Blue+ April 2014 tariff.

I've no particular problems with them as a supplier (the door knockers probably don't work for EDF, particualrly since they stopped door to door selling way back in September 2011!)

Anyway, as this is supposed to be a moneysaving site, let me know who can supply me cheaper and I'll take advantage of the no early exit fees EDF offered me

I suspect I won't be switching until next April otherwise, when my fixed rate ends.

Edit: Forgot to mention, lets assume Eastern Supply Region on typical average annual usage of 3300kWh electricity & 16500kWh gas :)
  • Hi,

as already asked, why have you provided a reading so soon, when meter was read a week ago?

Have you compared your reading with the one done by meter reader, is your reading massively under/over, is it a two rate meter and readings transposed, what is the discrepancy?
  • Hi Ambler, i work for EDF as a meter reader , the normal method with things like this is just to send a second meter reader out. we have a few who have been issued with good camera phones to take meter photos. I dont think it should be up to you at all to do their work for them, after all how would that suggestion work by them to old folk who have no internet etc. Let them do the work.
Is the meter electric or gas, metric or imperial gas? Could be they have mixed up either eco 7 electric ( very common ) or metric/imperial gas which is a big price difference. that would mean you owe them a lot or they owe you. If its the former you could escape most of the shortfall. Substitute gas meters are used a lot now by the "charletons " but EDF are pretty dire in that area so it wont be that they are concerned with

Presumably because they were requested to by the supplier

I guess this is the fundamental issue. The OP does not say if they even know the meter reading the meter reader gave the supplier - the supplier may not be divulging this, wishing to verify the consumer is at fault and hoping it isn't the meter reader they have employed (even if via an agency)

It would be usual for a supplier to trust a professional meter reader rather than a consumers own reading, especially if there is no evidence to mis-trust the professional meter read.

If the customer supplies an image that supports the professional's read (and does not support the customers read) then the supplier will know the exact situation and can advise the customer as appropriate in order to hopefully allow them to provide accurate meter reads in future.

If the image supports the customer's earlier meter reads, and doesn't support their own records, then I suspect the customer will hear nothing more about it. It'll be for the supplier to put their own records (and whoever provides them) in order.
This may or may not involve another professional meter read in the near future - that's entirely for the supplier to decide.

    You think so?

From the link, select the image file you want to convert, click convert and download the resulting pdf file.

    Simples!

yes it is for a supplier to be asking customer to do all this - seems odd to me
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
