Thank you Savings. So do I. To be fair, it offers me the opportunity to get a market rent. The current tenant is a friend and so gets a really good deal, in that I pay all the bills. This time, I will get a tenant with a standard tenancy agreement, where they pay their own bills and the money from the rent will be mine. I have been in this situation for over 2 years, so it's time to dip my toe into the market. Considering the lack of accommodation and the very sudden rise in evictions that is about to happen, I think I may be in a good position. Plus, I did a good deed for my friend at the time, so brownie points there.
The builder is MIA. To be fair, he never comes on a Monday, and today is the equivalent of Monday, so I hope he will show tomorrow The majority of the tiles are down, just cuts around the edges to do. If lucky, he will start with the French doors tomorrow, but I am not holding my breath. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

New day, new week. The building work is progressing well. Watching the finances as there are so many things that can go pear shape, but ok so far. Problems with the tile sealer and delivery of the hearth, but not insurmountable as yet.
Not sure why I chose to book my winter holiday for 2022, but I did. Money that should be going into the house is going towards paying for my jollies. And to be fair, it is probably over-stretching me a bit too much, but I think it's good to have something to look forward to.
The Tunnel are making it even more difficult to get money back on the crossing that was booked nearly 2 years ago and moved, shifted, given a credit note and now to offer the refund, they want the details of the original booking. Well, I admit I deleted the emails once I was given a credit note, so that on is looking a bit precarious.
On a positive note, I am going to try and get away for the weekend in the campervan. Not had much opportunity lately, but I feel the time is right!
Have made my monthly payment into the mortgage, which is good as it allows me more money to borrow against for the building work. Still making small amounts on surveys etc. About £10 per week on Prolific and Qmee, so still happy with that. Those little £10's help to pay for the odd thing here and there.
And completely random, I have a new pen pal! Over the moon. Hopefully, this will last longer than my penpal when I was 12!What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Slow progress across the board. But, it's the end of the month, so I have made a final payment into the mortgage to bring it down a small amount. As I have not yet finished paying the builder, this will go up further, but every little helps towards keeping the overall bill down.
I have been trying to sell some stuff on ebay, but have been unsuccessful. It may be more worthwhile just taking stuff to the Charity shop.
Still making small amounts of money on surveys etc. These mean I don't have to find money to cover smaller outgoings, so I am happy with this progress. YouGov just paid out £50, so money I didn't have to find to go shopping.
Nothing spectacular to speak about, so I will keep plodding along. Everything is going in the right direction, albeit slowly. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Well, hello there! Not been on here for over a month, but so much has happened. Living life with all its vagaries. The most important, my kitty has gone deaf. Not a big issue, just getting used to unknown levels of clinginess and extremely loud meowing, because he can't regulate how loud he is.
The house saga continues. Fell out with the builder - he went off saying he was going to sort out the bill. That was 3 weeks ago and still not heard from him. When it arrives, there may be some dispute over how much is owed, but I'm not going to speculate on it. I will just wait for the bill to land and then, I will want evidence of all monies spent on materials. I think this is where he may be having difficulty because he previously said how much the labour would be, so we can disagree on the cost of materials, but I will want receipts. I read back on my diary and as usual, woefully underestimated how much it would cost to do the work! Wow, was I naïve!
The chimney saga is ongoing also. I now have bags of cement or whatever it is outside, but still no scaffolding. And then to top it off, I have visitors next week. So you can guarantee, that when people are here visiting, the scaffolder will arrive and the chimney person will want to disrupt the house to fix it. And considering it has taken over 9 months to get to this point, I don't want to cancel or postpone the work. Dilemma, dilemma. The visitors arrive on Friday!!!
Anyway, the floor and the juliette balcony look lovely. Part way there! Just the chimney and the decorating to go! Hope the visitors don't mind living on a building site!! This is no joke! They may have to stay in to allow the chimney people in to do the job, whilst they are on holiday! I have no idea how to square his circle! What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Sorry that you are having a frustrating time. Hope the builder's bill comes back as expected. Sorry about your kitty. Will you need to keep it in?
Good luck with the visitors - I'm assuming you have warned them?

Thanks Savings. It would be great if he didn't come back at all, considering the devastation he left behind, but I don't think I will be that lucky. Not a problem, I have the money available, he just has to ask for it and evidence why he is asking for that much. If he doesn't ask for it, then he doesn't get it. I am not chasing him.
Kitty is fine. He is going out but very much sticking to where he knows. Strange, because you can't call him, not even when you see he may be at risk. Just have to hope that he keeps his eyes open for danger, but considering he can be looking for me and shouting at the top of his voice when I am stood next to him out of his field of vision, I don't have high hopes!
Yes, visitors have been warned and are accepting. Very kind of them to be so tolerant I guess but as they are not paying for it's use, they are more understanding than if there was a contractual obligation in place. Anyway, I still have 2 days before they arrive - 2 days for the scaffolding to go up and the work done. No chance on earth!!

Today, I am in a great position, because I have scaffolding up and I have all the building material in the drive, waiting for the chimney repair to commence. Admittedly it won't be for a couple of weeks, but all the main bits are in place. Oh happy day!! The final big piece of work to be completed. It has been a long arduous journey to get to this point. Then, I can consider renting out the bedroom and making some money, which is where most of this started, until the house began to fall apart! What I do not give, you must never take by force.
