Hi Tallulah...you're at the opposite end of the mortgage journey from me and I have to say I'm jealous at how well you are doing without even seeming to feel it. And I'm glad you're not compromising on the holidays. Us boring people deserve one indulgence!

Good luck and hope December 2014 sees you at least 15 bricks lighter!

Thanks for the good wishes and encouragement Mouche, it is always appreciated when someone comes along and admits to reading my diary. But, 15 bricks??!!!! Really? I was always bad at maths - in the end they gave up trying to get me an O level and put me forward for a 'proficiency in arithmetic'. So, are you really saying that I should have paid off £15k in 12 months? Oh heck.... Time to panic and reevaluate.

Ok, thought about it overnight. Good morning universe! Mouche has set my challenge for the year. My aim is to colour in 15 bricks by 1 January 2015, so 12 months.

I am saying it is an aim, so not beating myself up if I don't manage it, but I am going to try and get as close as I can.

    Release the Kracken!

    Bought new car. Bad.

Hi Tallgirl, thank you for the welcome back. Life has been getting in the way of MSEing of late, but I'm back with my big plans for the new year.

So, not a lot happening in my world really. Busy at work preparing for audit mid February. Actually, I am lying. Everyone else is preparing and I am rushing around being mainly unproductive and complaining that I don't have the time to get on with my preparation. Luckily everyone knows to ignore me. After all, what's the worst that can happen. A bit of corrective action? At least you know where you've gone wrong at that point.

Anyway, my new car is really new to me. Could never afford an absolutely brand new out of the showroom. Quelle horreur! Imagine the depreciation! It's great, the newer model of my current car. Of course, I got an absolute bargain because the garage were selling it as a bog standard model, when it came with added extras. I of course pretended to be girly, to detract from the fact I was looking at all these bits that he wasn't mentioning. So, I wittered on about the colour, how much I liked the fact the bumpers were not the same colour as the bodywork because it made it look pretty etc.

I lifted the bonnet to see if I could see any corrosion at the welding joints and I swear, he broke the land speed record to get to me. I was going to dip the oil so I could look at the colur to see if it had been changed recently, but in the end, I just stood and talked about how cramped it was in there and you couldn't fit anything else in.

Anyway, I am exterely happy and hopefully, once I have finished buying all the little extras that you buy to make it yours, I will have run out of things to purchase and will get down to some serious money saving.

I am hoping to perhaps pay down another £100 this month, but I am going on my winter holiday in Feb and need the spending money. Then, no more holidays booked! What will I do? How will I cope?

I wanted to make another overpayment, to make it £200 in January, but only managed to save a further £50, so will keep it until I can round it up to a whole £100 next month. Just discovered that I prefer to pay whole hundreds rather than small amounts. May not meet my MFW 14 target at this rate.

But something is better than nothing!

Hi talluhlah, those small payments at the beginning of the year make a real difference. I thought I should post rather than just read!
