Well done on taking lunch into work I am trying but it doesn't always work but we are getting a new fridge soon so that will help.
I agree you should buy Christmas presents when you see them saves money and hassle later on. I bought my niece's back July.

Well, October pay date is here, and I have again managed to overpay by £100 and save £100, despite my extremely high spending over the last few months.
My NSD went out the window as I had to buy milk, but on the plus side, I found £1 roadkill in the middle of Teskos. Downside, a colleague is leaving at the end of the week so contributed to the collection. Swings and roundabouts.
Finally took some photos, so plan to list some stuff on ebat this weekend, assuming it's a free listing weekend. Otherwise, I will just list some CD's at .99p each. Hopefully, I will get something towards my very sorry looking overpayment pot.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Thanks Greent and ICTD. Unfortunately, Rufus has not been contributing recently. I think it's because he never likes the presents I buy him. Basically, he thinks I'm a tightwad. He can tell a £1 toy from a £10 toy, and he obviously has expensive tastes. The toys are because I recently found Rufus looking claw marks in my leather sofa! Something, perhaps divine intervention prevented me from throttling him; but he remains a (live) guest, but knows he is in the dog house.
Anyway, today, I have been pulling my coin tins together and have managed to get together another £100 to overpay on the mortgage. Will go to the bank and pay it in tomorrow. Better in the mortgage than in my tin doing nothing.
Have also decided that from January onwards, I will change my change saving habit. From the New Year onwards, I will save £2 coins, copper shrapnel and 50p pieces. Previously, I was saving £2 coins, copper shrapnel, 20p and 5p coins. I figure that the 50p coins will bring in a bigger return, but keeping the 5p and 20p's in my purse, I will feel as if I actually have some money to spend!
Very pleased about the £100! Another step closer to 1 5 15!Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

oooh - hopefully Rufus knows that the doghouse is not a good place for him to be in!!!:D
We save change, too - £2 coins and silver and copper shrapnel (basically 20p pieces and anything smaller) = keeps my purse much lighter in weight and it's surprising how they mount up!

I agree that collecting shrapnel makes a difference. After all, it has allowed me to make an overpayment without too much pain. But now I have made the decision to stop collecting 5p and 20p peices, what am I going to do with the ones which currently reside in Ermintrude.? Do I spend them? Pointless saving them if they aren't going to get any other friends to keep them company. And it won't be the same thing to keep them with the 50p and £2 coins, they will just be out of place.
Anyway, I will ponder that dilemma and decide later. But what I have noticed is that I have managed to pay off £700 so far, against my target of £1000 by the end of the year. Two months and £300 to go, and suprisingly, it's not been that onerous.
Got £30 on my ebay sales so far with 4 days to go, so with luck, that will be another hundred towards the target.
I am determined to do this, but will of course require some sort of congratulatory present... I will ruminate on this further - a no spend present!Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Had a great day today. Began with my excel house from gallygirl - thank you, I am not worthy!
Then I found 3p roadkill in true Ninja style.
Followed by a telephone call from Barclays offering me £150 for mortgage settlement excess fees as suggested on the Reclaiming Fees thread.
Plus, my ebay stuff is selling. Not setting the world on fire, (£50) but better than nothing, so I should be able to overpay by an extra £200 this month. An unexpected bonus.
I feel I should be sending a letter of thanks!
So, once this money is in my account, I only have £100 to go to meet my target of £1k by the end of the year.
Happy bonfire night everybody.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.
