Thanks for the consideration Savings. I agree that forgoing the mortgage would be the sensible thing to do to plan for the trip, but I feel that the lower the mortgage, the easier it will be to get the permission for the Consent to Let. They usually only give it if you are working elsewhere, and I would not be working. Additionally, my plan is not to return to work after the maximum permitted period of 2 years, so if I can get the mortgage to a point where it is paid off whilst it is being rented out, this would be the ultimate. I can only do that if the mortgage is low enough when I start to rent it out. I am aware it is a pipe dream, but every step towards this aim I believe should be pursued.
Anyway, where have I got to so far? I have written the list of things that need to be done in each property so that I can walk away and know there will be no issues for the year I am travelling. The list is immense but one property at a time I think.
I love the idea of vlogging the plans but I cannot think of anyone who would be interested, or even getting any money for it!What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Hi. Haven't started to do anything to be honest. Just getting my bearings. Its been a long time since I was unemployed and so I think I need to just relax a moment. Once I feel I am OK, I will look at UC/JSA and if I can claim it. I am hoping I won't need to, even though I know I have paid into the system and would perhaps be entitled to it.
Just a couple of days and then I will begin to do the hard stuff, like panic.
Thanks for dropping by.What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Well, offered and accepted new job already. Start in a weeks time. Not much time to rest and relax. Perhaps that's a good thing, I might have decided I like it too much. So, just enough time to relax and then back to the grindstone.
Plans have changed as well after watching a blog from a really honest woman about campervan life. So, maximum 1 month at a time with healthy stretches at home in between each adventure. Will re-evaluate whilst I keep paying down the mortgage. The ultimate dream. Mortgage free. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Think this will be the final post for the month. What have I achieved?
. Lost a job
. Found a job
. 9 NSDs this month - I know I am spending tomorrow.
. Made a list of work to be done to reach long term goals.
Difficulty with this because not really clear on what my long term goals are. They are a bit random. Is the ultimate aim to clear the mortgage, which will take about 6 years at current rate? Is it to get ready to go off in my campervan? Which will cost, as I need to figure out how to pay the mortgage as well as have an income whilst travelling (cant travel with a job).
Because I have no clarity, I think I am in limbo. So what I need to do is be clear about where my spare money can and should be going. Things I need to pay outside of monthly living costs
. Mortgage - £69,500
. Repairs to properties - £10,000 guesstimate max
. Car loan - £16,500
. Small visa debt - £2,000
With all this going on in the background, I had to buy a new fish tank. My goldfish have outgrown the current one. Once transferred into their new home, I will try to sell the old one. It's in good condition and someone might give me a bit of money for it.
I also need to do some de-cluttering. Although I class myself as a minimalist, I still think I hoard a lot of stuff. I have to get back into the swing of ebaying.
Plan of action for February -
to have 10 NSDs
to sell 3 things on ebay
to continue to overpay £200 on mortgage
to continue to pay £100 off the visa debt
to continue to make the car loan payment
to go on holiday as planned without using the visa
to settle into the new job
Enough for now. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Thanks greent. It was quick wasn't it? Didn't even get time to start getting anxious about where I will get the money to pay next months bills. I was very fortunate. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Congratulations on your new job! Sounds like it was what you wanted. For what its worth I think the podcaster was right about shorter trips, at least initially. Good luck with it all!:beer:Aiming to early retire December 31st 2026.2
