Reccommend me a rough phone

Basically as a builder my phone gets a lot of crap in it and takes a lot of punishment.

My last phone the buttons went due to sand getting into it (but it did take a good hammering and lasted a good while). My current phone i bought about 12-18 months ago and did not think 'work' when buying cause it was an impulse purchase. Normal Motorola Razr, as the buttons are a flat peice of plastic sand does not get in and the screen is starting to show a bit of scratch damage, which i think will get worse over the next 6 months or so.

So what i am wanting is a reccommendation of which phone will take a lot of punishment before making my next purchase within the next 6 months.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

Some of the Nokia phones were supposed to be tough and durable. Kind of thing for you I think.
Nokia 3120 is basic but tough
Some of the 5 series also 5140, 5500
You could of course buy a tough cover as well. Not as nice obviously but does protect it somewhat.

My old fone was Sony Ericsson k700i, now that was a solid phone. Ive dropped it a number of times, and quite a few on the concreted road. Although its got lots of scratches, it still works fine. Never had any problems whatsoever. Ive got a k800i now, it looks a bit more delicate than the k700i

All the fones Ive mentioned are old obviously, Im not sure of any new tough phones, sorry

i had a k700i, the joystick went after about a year.

i have a k750i, but i would recommend a w810i to you. it has a dpad (so no joystick failing to respond), a good camera etc.

Ericsson made a great waterproof and dirt resistant phone called the R250 but they won't have all the features or super long battery life of modern phones, so it's a real compromise.

You're better off just sticking with modern phones and giving them the occasional clean.
  • My Dad works on a farm so equally his phone gets in a lot of wet, dust, mud etc and generally has a hard life
He now has the Nokia 5500 sport which is designed to be wet/dustproof etc. It's a good phone, I'd recommend it and seems pretty hardy, although he hasn't had it long yet. Also not too expensive with very good features for it's type.
He had the previous model Nokia before that (sorry forgotten the name) which, although nothing like as nice as the 5500 withstood 2 years of extensive use in all sorts of conditions without any problems.

I had a nokia 5100 for about 4 years or something and found it to be pretty hard wearing...It got thrown on the floor, knocked about, I spent a lot of the time kiting/kitelandboarding on the beach with it (which bashes things about a lot...), splashed it with tea a few times...in the end the battery started failing so I upgraded, but other than that it was still going strong..

So one of the later models of that might be a good bet.

I had the 5500 sport which is meant to be the new "tough" smartphone.

Very nice phone, its splashproof and meant to be able to take plenty of knocks.

The keypad fell apart after about 3 months, though, which i was annoyed about. Which meant it was definitely no longer splashproof, if anything worse off than a standard phone.

Was sent a replacement phone straight away, don't know if its just me who's had this problem but i'd definitely recommend you read plenty of reviews before going for one.
  • My OH is a baker, so has major problems with any slide or flip phones as the mechanism gets jammed up with flour, sugar etc.

He's now got a Nokia 6300 and it has been surviving pretty well - he's just bought a Bodyglove case for it, which should help too.

    Best wishes,
