On the evidence you have given us, I am pretty sure I wouldn't be paying them.
Just think, if I were to send you a letter saying "the copyright of that animated image of a dancing couple on your avatar is mine so please pay me £468.00", would you pay me?
Anyway, this isn't really a consumer rights issue, is it?
You need further proof that they own the copyright, and probably need to seek professional advice on this.0 -
Well, the copyright clearly belongs to somebody. If it is theirs then I wouldn't be surprised that they want paying.
But until they get a court order there's no debt to recover. Have they threatened court proceedings?0 -
Many thanks to you peepsWhen life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0

£468??? I've done images for book covers and only got paid £80 for my original design. They are taking the p*ss! I'd ignore them.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Did you get the image from their website?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Looks legit - £468 seems to be at the upper end of the costs for the image, but given you've been running it for a while...it might not be totally unreasonable.
I certainly wouldn't be avoiding it, but maybe compromise with them - although given you were 'appalled' in your first email to them you may have now compromised on that possibility.0 -

That wasn't too difficult to find.
Rights Managed Licenses (RM)
If an image is Rights Managed it means that there is a certain pre-established fee for each usage. The fee is determined according to a variety of factors, including intended use, size, placement, press run or circulation, duration of use and geographic distribution.0 -
but this isn't how I found it !!When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0

Well yes, you've had use of the image for a length of time, they're going to want paying for that.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
