Problems with Travelodge - please help

Hi everyone.

I am relatively new to MSE and just getting my head around quidco.

I was trying to book a room for one night in Travelodge earlier and before I confirmed booking, I remembered that quidco offer £3.60 for each completed booking.

So I closed the window, opened Quidco and entered the site through that, booking the same room. What I didn't realise was that Travelodge operate a "basket" so when I confirmed purchase, stupidly without looking, I had booked two rooms. I realised this, just as my card was to be authorised so I hit cancel and back and went back two pages, adjsted it for one room and hit confirm.

Now I have confirmations for three rooms on the one night, totalling £150!

I tried to cancel the extra rooms and now I have been sent a mail saying that the rooms have been cancelled but as it was no cancellation policy I cannot get a refund.

So now I have only one room for £150!

Can anyone help me out on this as I cannot afford to lose £100.

  • I would try phoning them direct and explain the situation, asking them if there is any possibility of getting a refund (as a gesture of goodwill) you never know it might work! If not ask if perhaps you can have a credit note for future use.... anything is better than nothing. Fingers crossed for you that you do get your money back, I hope you do. Let us MSE's know what happens.

We'd all like to know about any gestures of goodwill.

Is a name change possible, so you could sell them on e bay?

Quidco relies on cookies, so to avoid it getting confused with other cookies, always clear them before logging on to quidco.

    Oh dear.

Sorry can't offer much advice, but really hope you get it sorted.

Was it a £15.00 room, presumably not at 3 rooms total £150.00.

If you could sell them, you probably wouldn't need a name change, (I think their none tranferable), as presumably you would be there to check them in, but them you would be responsible for their rooms.
  • Because you say £50 per room this means that it wasn't the super saver or saver rate. I thought that other rates were refundable?
If the booking was not refundable, then why did you cancel it? Could you have ammended it under your login? If you couldn't ammend/cancel without loss then i would have put them on ebay. There are many people who do this when people change their plans and you just quote the name and reservation number to the ebay purchaser. I dont know if it is bullet proof.

I think that they will argue that it is all your own fault and many reading your 'air head' post would think the same! I mean this in a nice way and i'm having a liitle chuckle about how my wife has fluffed this sort of thing before also. I always think of Mr Bean. My wife needs special insurance for ordering the wrong things off the net!

I hope that they show sympathy with you. Good luck!

I would be tempted to tell them the website crashed during your first booking, so you made another. ie. just blame them, but in a nice way.

    I know it's a lie - but sometimes...

Thanks for all your replies, maybe with the exception of Andrew!

I have emailed them and get a note back to say I will be contacted within ten working days. I think the sooner this is sorted the better.

I can't find any telephone number.

Could anyone help me with that?

I wouldn't rely on the email. I emailed with a complaint a few months ago and never got a reply.

I once made a mistake booking a flexible rate room for my parents and could not cancel as it was past the cut-off time. I called them and they were most helpful. They eamiled the hotel to tell them not to charge me and made the correct booking for me.
