Wording will vary with firms but typically they will use wording that will state they have given their decision and that if you disagree with it that you have the right to refer it to the FOS and that you have 6 months to do so.

Actually, they don't usually say it's a final response, they include an ombudsman leaflet and tell you you can go there if you disagree with them.

Since my last post I have written in and requested a 'Final Response' to my complaint.

The reply from Natwest didn't have the heading "Final Response" but it had the leaflet and mentioned the six months time frame for speaking to the FOS.

I rang the FOS a couple of weeks ago and they have logged it and said they will look into it. I'm just waiting for the forms to sign.

Obviously nothing was said either way as to how it could go, but they never said that not having any statements or proof I ever had PPI stopped this from at least being looked at again.

This is the most pointless exercise ever.
    1. No one can prove whether you did or did not have PPI.
    2. Obviously no paperwork exists, so any reasons for your complaint can not be investigated, so no decsion can be made.
    3. Even if you did have PPI, and you were missold it, no one knows how much you paid, so no one knows what redress you are due.

You are not getting anything, get over it.

It is not pointless or the woman at the FOS would have said so.

She said that Natwest have to prove that they did all they could to locate my policy and the details as to how it was sold.

The women [and men] at the FOS who answer the phone never tell you your complaint is not going to succeed.
Don't expect anything, and you won't be disappointed.

Natwest may offer you something just to avoid paying the £900 fee.
Or they may offer you nothing and be happy to pay the FOS £900.

I don't expect anything, however, if the FOS had said 'no chance' then I would have accepted that answer.

I appreciate that Natwest might go along the lines of making an offer to avoid a fine as you have said.

    We shall see what happens.

Hi as all others have said even if the FOS take on the case nobody knows what you have paid so dont bank on getting hundreds of £ unless you have statements, yes you might get lucky and they pay out before the FOS open the case for it to be looked into in more detail(which costs the bank) but the bank knows you don't have statements so will just offer you a little sum like Barclays did to me ( £97) but unlucky for Barclays I had statements dating back to 1996 so they had to send a new offer.

Anyway I wish you luck I have only just heard from the FOS for my Halifax CC and it has taken them 16 months .

Many thanks for your help and it is interesting you say that you are only just hearing back from the FOS after sixteen months !

Still, I guess waiting costs nothing.

It is "complaints" like yours which clog up FOS and cause the huge delay.
The Bank won't be offering you anything of substance if you can't produce documentary proof of paying PPI. FOS will not award you anything either and in the meantime others with genuine complaints will continue to be delayed.
Well done for "wasting their time".

That's your view and you are entitled to it, but I think I have a case.
