Re-routed and delay of arrival...compensation?

Hi,

I travel a lot with Air Portugal and nearly always there is a delay on the first of 2 flights to/from my destination resulting in missing the connection, subsequent re-routing and therefore arrival substantially delayed e.g. last trip I arrived about 9 hours later than planned at my destination. The return journey was similar and I arrived in the UK at 17:40 instead of 10:35.

I apologise if this has already been covered in another thread, but I would be grateful to know whether I am entitled to any compensation from the airline (other than food voucher); although the outgoing flights in each case were only delayed by about 1 hour, the re-routing meant that my journeys were considerably longer than anticipated. This has been a common occurrence on many trips with this airline, but they hold a monopoly on this route (Manchester - Lisbon - Fortaleza) and are the only real option. Thanks...
