Benefit for people working with a disability

Hi guys

Just looking for a bit of help. My wife works part time as a carer, over 3 days (15hrs a week). She has endometriosis, so during her time of the month, she is in absolute agony, almost to the point of fainting. Also, her back is in a bad way. She basically takes very strong pain killers to get throug every single day. Also have 2 young kids (the main reason why she has a bad back, during pregnancy) Anyway, she has applied before and is not entitled to any disability allowance, hence her having to work. But my sister who works for the job centre was saying that there is a benefit for people who are working and have a disability, has anyone heard of this, and know if it exists? She didnt have any more info on it, just something someone was saying at her work.

Your help is very much appreciated.

She is probably referring to the disability element of working tax credit which is for disabled people working at least 16 hours.

However, it is based on household income. Secondly, you need to be in receipt or have previous received a qualifying disability benefit which it doesn't sound like your wife has.

She could apply for pip (DLA for existing claimants), but I doubt she would be successful.

Has she had any treatment for her endometriosis? She needs to get back to her gynecologist and seek out treatments/more treatment, it isn't something that has to just be left until the menopause.

She has been through the treatment, she had the op to burn the endo away, and had the 6 months of "temporary menapause state" sorry, I am at work, she would know what the tech term is. So yeah, she has had all the treatment you can get, but the endo is still there, its a pest to get rid of, really not a nice thing to have :( She is going to get the coil, which should make the pain a bit more bearable.

And as for the working tax credit thing, na, we wont be entitled to that, as my wage is over the threshold.

Thought it would be too good to be true. Just gutting to see people out there that don't need these benefits, and people like my wife has to struggle through. She is only 26.... Keeps getting told by the doc's she is in some mess, but still not able to get any help from benefits.

Sorry, I'm new to this, but how would receiving benefits help your wife's pain during her mensuration period? Or do you mean, can she give up work altogether because of it?

You can receive a disability benefit, yet be a multi millionaire and be earning millions a year.

These benefits are not affected by savings or earnings.

She just has to show that she has problems that create care or mobility needs.

People claim these disability benefits having a whole range of medical and mental problems and hold down a full time job.

We would put the money aside for any time she has to take time off work due to being in too much pain, which happens sometimes. She does not get paid when she is off sick. And also she cannot take on anymore work because of her condition, so help out that way also.

And by the way, she doesnt WANT to be on benefits........
