TalkTalk Fibre

Having spent the last year with approximately 2Mb broadband from TalkTalk we're looking to move to Fibre (unfortunately Virgin Media isn't available in our area, as I'd love to move to cable and do away with the phoneline!)
It's looking like TalkTalk Fibre has the cheapest 'first year' costs, working out about £22.63/month, but I'm concerned that the actual speeds won't be anywhere near the advertised speeds - although in a conversation with them yesterday they stated that the "average of 38Mb" was an average for ourselves.
The next cheapest option for us appears to be Plusnet which works out at £28.48/month.
Does anyone use TalkTalk Fibre? How do they find it? Are the speeds kinda close to those advertised?

Hi i have the 38mb broadband fibre with talk talk, I use the laptop wireless and i still get a download speed of 27mb which is very good. If i plug in the rj45 cable i will get in the 30mb's. I have been on fibre for Nearly a year and its been very reliable and fast. The only problem i had was at the start of contract when the new white bt open reach box packed up took a couple of weeks to replace but that's the problem with fibre. Bt own some equipment and talk talk the rest so it can be a battle. But this can happen with any other fibre providers other than bt fibre it self if that makes sense. I think talk talk have one of the cheapest fibre deals but comes with an 18 month contract. Hope this helps.0

I was in the same position, getting < 2Mbps most of the time.
Upgraded to the TT Medium Fibre and the tests I ran I did get something like 37Mbps with a wired connection, and anything from about 15-30Mbps for wireless - can't complain at that.
My wireless connection has been more reliable, I used to get lots of drop outs, although that is probably just down to the new router.
As you are already with Talk Talk you will be aware of their customer service standards. Not always bad, but sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. I had a few issues with billing after I upgraded to fibre but the installation process itself went very smoothly.
Do you know roughly how close you are to your FTTC cabinet?
You may need to sign up for an 18 month contract to get fibre. If you phone up their rententions dept you may be able to get a deal to stick with them.0 -
Using this website: http://fttc-check.alc.im/
It looks like the nearest one is about 1.5 miles away
Oops - that's the exchange, I seem to have the cabinet number but not sure how to find out which one that is!
If it's the one I think it might be then about 200m.You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0 -
TT FTTC is just a resold BT Wholesale product. No free lunch, and no free laptop
