I got a friend request from Martin Lewis on myspace page here Can anyone confirm whether or not this is genuine please?

Doesn't look genuine to me. It says his star sign is a Leo but Martin's real birthday is May 9th, therefore making him a Taurus.

Also he's on Facebook (genuinely) and his interests listed are very different. Perhaps it's worth reporting it to him?

If he had a myspace page, he would have announced it on the forums here, as he did with his facebook profile.

it's looking like nothings been done about this - the site owner (whoever s/he is) last logged in yesterday and there's loads of posts to the 14th that are obviously from mse'ers that beleive it's a genuine site.

scarry to realised no matter how carefull you are about identity theft, it still happens

Don't think there's anything to scary about this, after all, you're only signing up to be a friend! The owner of this page cannot get any info from you. Perhaps it's just someone who wants to highlight Martin's profile - after all in the about me it refers to He not I - this should give it away.

If you search other famous people on myspace you get loads of 'tributes to.'

I think some people do set up sites for the wrong reasons.

I have a friend who is well known, and someone set up a site pretending to be him. Anyone that actually knew him would know it wasn't him by the way that things were phrased, but this person was contacting fans through the site to arrange meets. As far as I know, no one ever agreed to meet him, but it could have been very dangerous.

Also, someone purporting to be Paris Hilton, had added a teenage girl I know as a friend. Needless to say, my friend's daughter has had a good talking to about the potential dangers of meeting people on the internet.

I think it is fine if it is clear that the sites are not associated with the actual person, but if not I do find it a tad concerning.
