    But that has to be better than a flat with neighbours each side, above and below, all rented, all enjoying noisy parties, loud music, frequent domestics!

    How much will the difference be in council tax, service charge v own maintenance and how are major works paid for in the flat.
    Utilities costs, parking etc.

    I'd go for the house as then I can spend (or not) on maintenance in my own time and choose who does the work.

    You can get bad neighbours next door or across the road and equally you can get very quiet and peaceful neighbours living in plush flats. Lots of professionals live in upmarket flats. Not all people who live in flats have domestics lol

    You're assuming that everyone who lives in a flat is a badly behaved chav, which isn't true.

    will go for the semi detached, the flat is much more modern and luxury looking but I forgot about the benefits of only have 1 neighbour compared to 3+
