Giving prizes as Xmas/Birthday gifts

Hi everyone, i was just wondering what you're experiences are with giving prizes as presents at Christmas etc? Do you find that family members seem ungrateful if they know you've won it instead of buying it? Do you tell them it was a win?

I've started keeping a few prizes to one side to try and save myself a bit of money over Christmas, i'm not planning on telling them that i won them but i think they'll be a little suspicious because they know about my comping now & are always asking what i've won lol!

Just tell them. If they moan, take it back and tell them not to be ungrateful.

No one I know are like that, but if they were I'd remind them it's the thought that counts and not how much I've spent.

My BF loves the fact he gets loads of new clothes from me... and my mum got over £150 worth of stuff on Mother's day, which I won, i could have never have afforded that :)

I keep a comping book of wins which I have to hide from my kids! I don't feel bad if I win a prize and give it for bdays or Xmas as ive won some really good stuff in the past which I could never afford to buy for presents. I wouldn't want to spoil my kids by giving them large presents for no reason! :D

I've had someone be ungrateful re some presents at Christmas that I had won. It seemed like they thought I was basically giving them second hand I think lol Well... they'll get nought this year that's for sure.

I love giving prizes as gifts, often enough I try to win certain things as gifts and yes I do fess up and say it was a win. To date I have given my Mum some really expensive moisturiser as a birthday gift (she is thrilled) My father in law is 60 tomorrow and he will be receiving a £100 Red Letters Day card (how can you be disappointed with that? Im sure he will be chuffed) I recently won £60 worth of Batman Lego and its gone away for Christmas for my son (Santa sorted that by the way ;) and finally I won some Babyliss curling tongs and my bestie begged me to give them to her for Xmas! All in all I think prizes as pressies are a fab idea and if people don't like it then they are ungrateful xx

As others have said I give wins as gifts too, I couldn't afford to give to so many without them. No-one has ever said anything and they're always pleased.
It's the thought that counts, not the cost :)

None of my family have been ungrateful I think they understand how skint we are and just appreciate the fact they actually got a gift. I don't just give them any old thing though I try and make sure it's something they want/like etc

This will be the first xmas time that I have been comping but I'm looking forward to (hopefully) winning some presents for people.
I have a huge family so every win counts!

So far I've won some lovely things and my family are so happy when I give them things, they don't care that I've won it, still counts as a gift.

Why do they need to know if you won it or bought it?

Its not something i would ask a family member, id just say thank you for my lovely pressie.

I've never experienced anyone responding that way, thank goodness.

I won a Harrods hamper last year :j:j:j It included three bottles of wine. I gave one to my sister-in-law when she got through her dissertation in nursing a few weeks ago and passed her degree - can't remember now if it was a masters or perhaps something higher. She already knew I'd won the hamper.

I told her how I'd shared one bottle with our best friends, that I wanted the second bottle to keep in my wine rack, and that I had been saving the third bottle for 'something special', and she was 'it'.

    She cried :)
