Food is a big part of enjoyment of our holidays. I have stayed in an AI hotel twice in Tunisia for short non holiday trips. Both times I was sooooo disapointed in the food. Hotel and out and about

I refer you to post #8

Ai is not and never will be a 'cheap' holiday.
The sums don't add for a cheap Ai

Im not long back from a few nights in S'illot in Majorca, I got 3 nights all inclusive accommodation for £150, booked with on the beach but its a bit cheaper on travel republic so thats where I booked for next time.

Flight over with jet 2 for £35, back with ryanair for £60, I only took hand luggage though. Booked my own transfers to and from airport, £13 each way.

S'illot is quieter than other resorts in Majorca and very family friendly.

I'm another huge fan of Kalkan but I never think of it as a particularly child friendly place. It's full of fantastic restaurants so IMO it would be criminal to be AI:). (Does anywhere in Kalkan offer that?). There is a small shingly beach but otherwise it's swimming off platforms into deep water or travel to beaches elsewhere.

Turkey does AI but I'm not sure Kalkan is the right resort.

And you think you get a better meal in a restaurant than a hotel?
Large hotel will have a far greater choice. And if you make a mistake , easy to get something new.
Couple of years ago , to escape the sun for an hour , took the tour of the hotels kitchen . ( after being garbed up in white coat/hat/ over boots and blue gloves)

So again will refer you to post#8

Sorry, I didn't intend to criticise hotel kitchens/food/menus. It's just that the town/village of Kalkan is so lovely it's all part of my enjoyment to go out and about and enjoy the bars/restaurants, mixing with people, visiting beach clubs etc. Maybe I made the (wrong?) assumption that many people who go AI don't move much out of the hotel.

Like you said, hotels can offer fantastic food. I had a half board deal with a hotel in Sorrento a couple of years ago. It was such good value that I decided if the food was carp I could easily afford to eat out. It wasn't so we ate in every night and my only criticism was that the portions (silver service) were massive!

I'm still of the impression that Kalkan isn't a child-friendly resort compared to many others in Turkey. Hopefully poster will reply and tell me where she goes.

Sorry , I am defensive about Ai , too many people , who have never tried Ai , try and give misleading advice. I expect ( well know) you get all sorts of hotels /restaurants etc.

In many cases that is correct. The hotels can be VERY large, and with multiple resturants on site, complex rather than hotel is a better description. Also , if you have paid for 'everything' upfront , why pay again.

Also , many Ai are remotely located .

    ps my choice. http://www.susesihotel.com/en/index

    That looks fantastic.

I understand what you mean about complex rather than simply AI hotel. They can have a bad name mainly because of people who never set foot outside and don't sample local culture/customs. A bit like those who go on cruises and never get off the boat for fear they're missing a meal.

I stayed in a complex in Bali which had all sorts of international cuisine on-site from Japanese to an English pub!

    I love holidays!!:)
