If BT were trying to keep the product hidden away as you imply in your misleading title, why would they have issued this Press Release?

    I'd say no

They do not include calls made through the operator, or calls to any of the following:
    • The Channel Islands
    • Premium-rate numbers
    • The internet
    • Mobile phones
    • 0845 or 0870 numbers

Well I will be phoning them asap I pay £35 a month to bt and don't get any discounts been with them for years .
Unless you're confusing 'monthly' and 'quarterly', that's means you must be spending £25 per month with BT on calls.

Please click the HERE link in my signature below and get that down to a more reasonable level.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

My parents are on Light User Scheme (but wouldn't qualify for BT Basic).

They inform me that they haven't received any notification from BT that their LUS service is ending....

Are people only just being notified... ??

Does anyone know when existing LUS customers will be taken off it ?

    Thanks

When they are moved over they will automatically be be able to go on BT Basic without the need to be on benefits as they are on LUS.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

    Thanks for the reply.

So everyone who is already on LUS will be moved over to BT Basic without having to provide proof that they are on benefits... ??

No broadband or more than one telephone line, or if your telephone service is provided by another supplier

Having Broadband is NOT specified as a restriction; it is ISDN - which is a different product. (Remember if your ISP uses BT lines, you are indirectly paying BT - via a large proportion of your ISP subscription - so BT are getting two bites of the cherry)

We have discussed this previously, see this thread from back at 10-09-2008. I am STILL waiting their phone call - an assortment of 'helpdesk' drones would/could not confirm this - and then insisted BT Basic scheme was for new (BT) customers only ...... draw your own conculsions.

But will be calling them tomorrow - as all the links at moment (23:17) to the their relevant BT Basic webpages are not resolving at present :-(

    Note:
The call allowance (£4.50/ quarter) does NOT include calls to "The internet" - I assume this means via the low cost access numbers to your ISP, using the old style (and slow) 'dial up' modems.
  • The BT bill is in my name but my husband is in receipt of pension credits, will I still be able to apply?
